Edge error...

Well I just got my Edge in the mail today and I was downloading the Lightening software and I went to install it and it gave me this error:

"Error 1930. The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\Windows\...\ntoskrnl.exe because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."

Whats the deal with this?

Matt

what version of windows are you using? Did you try rebooting your computer and trying again? It sounds like a windows system protection error.
It looks like it is trying to install under
ntoskrnl.exe which looks like windows nt operating system kernel.
Dont send it back. Its really a nice unit.
and remember if it was really such a bad product, Mike T would not sell it, as he only sells quality stuff.

If you get an error don't load period.Unless you don't care if your truck starts soon after.Call the supplier and get the facts of why it is giving you the error code.

ok try this.
Unistall all edge software.
Reboot computer and go to this link
and click on the first box download(Full Installation).
https://local.edgeproducts.com/edge/..._download.html

And no dont use it if it does not install properly. Try it on a different computer if you have one.

I'm still amazed at how anti-Edge all of the XCal users are. Shouldn't be reading all the posts, but yet, still am. That's definately not an Edge issue.

"You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly."
Have you tried that? www.windowsupdate.com. See if there's anything there that hasn't been downloaded yet.

It's probably your firewall. you need an open port and either your Windows SP2 firewall or if you have another firewall setup it is blocking traffic on the port. I had to shut down windows firewall and allow traffic on the port to get the updates. Just don't go hopping around the internet while you are downloading and then turn the firewall (S) back on when you are done and you'll be fine.

As to the Xcal users that want to bash on peoples products when they are asking for help on setting it up, go get a life, geez!

I had the same problem. It was going fine and then at the end gave me the error. For me it was the firewall, wouldn't allow the port to comminacte and finish the update and install. No hurt in trying.

Whenever uploading from Edge, I do two things; shutdown my firewall and virus protection. Those two will effect operating unit of your edge.

I've heard that Windows XP will only work correctly on one computer?
