Programmer Questions?!?!?
well i have a new 2006 Ford F-150 SuperCrew, with the 3V 5.4L engine, and i was wondering what the best programmer is for the truck, i have looked at the edge and the Bamachips and the superchips and all, but i was just wondering what ur opionions were on the subject. Let me no what u think!! Thanks!!!!!
Just a few months ago I ordered a Superchips 1815 From Troyer It's what they call a canned programer. But it changed my shift points and has tunes for 87 octane,93 octane and towing programed in.I am very happy with the set up.If gas ever gets resonable again I would like to try the 93 tune....06 Sscrew 5.4 Triton.
well i have looked at what everyone has said about the diferent programmers but i guess what im asking is, can i get more power from say a superchips programmer then the edge?
A can tune such as the edge will likely not be able to outperform a custom tune. I have a custom tune with an XCal II from Troyer Performance and truly love it. This is "your answer.......revealing itself momentarily" as BalogUK so put it. He's absolutely correct as you will find that the XCal II is pretty much the board favorite in this category.

HI 06FX4,
Congratulations on having a vehicle many people here drool over - the off road package-equipped FX4 4x4 in a brand new 2006 F-150 - that's really quite the vehicle!
In terms of what will actually get you the best results, hands down that is our Troyer Performance custom tuning, and I say that not to play cheesy salesman, but simply because it's true - we have specialized in performance tuning the F-series platform far longer than anyone else, over 14 years. In fact, I don't think there actually is anyone else who truly specializes in the P221 platform to the extent we do at all - we're well known for our results.
We're here virtually every day with our necks on the chopping block, so to speak, and the members here are pretty vocal about telling everyone what they like,m etc. You will find many go with our custom tuning simply because that is what gets them the highest safe & sustainable performance gains, the best towing performance, the best sheer acceleration, but even more importantly, the best overall driveability. It really turns the vehicle into what it should have been from the factory, with much better throttle response and significant power gains.
In fact, we just held another F-150 Online member Dyno Day event here at our shop, and it was a 3-day marathon, with many people coming from 1000 miles away & more just to come put their trucks on our dyno and see us do our stuff - but more importantly, to get a chance to meet in person some of the "faces behind the names' here on F-150 Online. This is a tightly knit community of F-150 enthusiasts, and we're all looking to get the most from our vehicles without causing damage, etc. The idea is simply to get as much enjoyment as possible from these extremely expensive vehicles (especially in your case with that new 2006 FX4 truck!).
If you like, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, & we'll be happy to go over what we can do for your vehicle - in short, we provide a set of 3 different custom tunes set up for each individual vehicle owner's needs & preferences, so that you have the ultimate in flexibility & capabilities, and the performance gains are second to none.
I hope this brief info helps a bit, & please feel free to give us a call to go over this in more detail, we'll be happy to help.
Thanks for your post, & best of luck whatever you decide - that's a beautiful new F-150 you have there!

Call Troyer
Mike can't talk pricing on these boards, but do yourself a favor and give him a call. The SCT XCAL2 is a great product and Troyer does a great job with the tunes. Plus their customer service is excellent. I have an F250 6.8L and the SCT really made a huge difference... and I'm only using the 87 perrformance tune right now! Give them a call, you won't reget it.

Do yourself a favor, call and when you can get mike on the phone, have a pen handy and learn shorthand. The info overload will overwhelm you. Write down your questions too, or you'll never get to them all. Mike is like a computer spewing out info that is amazingly useful, but it comes so fast you have to almost record the conversation to get the most of it. Look through some old posts, like 3 or 4 months ago, and you'll see that mike and I butted heads quite alot about this stuff, and now my Navigator is tuned by him.
Nice setup 06FX4 ! I'm sure you have had plenty of it but here is some more advice if you haven't started any perf mod's yet. Just get the Troyer Stage 1 package - ( wish I just went that route ). Great start, probably cheaper than the 'one at a time' approach and by the time you get your custom tune, you will be beyond the break in period. I put an intake and exhaust on mine when she only had 100 miles on her and right at about 1100 miles, the tuner arrived ! If you can't spring for the entire stage 1 package up front, at least go with the AF1 intake with your xcal2 so your tune can be programmed for a higher fuel intake to match the air intake. Might as well get all you can out of it !!

06FX4,
I completely understand where your coming from. The more choices the more daunting the task of choosing one.
I went with an Edge Advantage and am very satified. I knoticed how much better off the line it was as well as shooting down the freeway, dodging Chevy's and Passing Dodges... the way it should be.
Acceleration and shifting is way improved and I've noticed a change in mileage (for the better). I'm only running pgm 2 made for 87 octane... will possibly splurge for a tank of premium but at 3bucks+ per gallon here (Seattle) and going up... Im just not sure I need to spend over a hundred bucks to see what I will get with pgm 3 (for 91 Oct+).
So keep reading reviews and doing comparasons of your own, You'll notice that there are pluses on both. Either way with the marked improvments of these systems to these trucks, you'll be happy with an upgraded system from a reputable company.
