Xcal2 and shift pattern
Received Xcal 2 with TP tunes a month or so ago. After loading the
tune and allowing the adaptive strategy to learn my driving habits
the truck seems to shift into OD prematurely. It is very noticeable on small hills and driving in town as it shifts into 3rd. ALOT..... I was wondering
if anyone else has run into this behavior?

Yeah, it is different from my stock tune. It seems to be going into OD too early anyway I have loaded a different tune and will run it a few weeks to see if this is any different than what I have experienced with the current tune. I also spoke with TP and that is what they suggested as well. I will update with the results.......
I felt that my stock tune does the same thing it goes in to OD to early, but the stock tune just falls in to gear but the 93 tune shifts mutch better in to OD, and thats how you notice it
Mine does the same thing. When I first load a tune its not there and runs like a bat outa hell, but after allowing the adaptive strategy to take over I find myself having to run alot with OD off. Actually there seems to be some minor loss of power too after going through a tank of gas or so in each tune. I been wanting to get my truck data logged before calling TP to see if this is normal, knowing how busy he is. I dont want to bother the man until I have all the data for him to look at.

I've got some news for everyone - we do NOT allow any of these trucks to go into Overdrive anywhere near as soon as the stock factory tune does - not by a long shot. Each and every one of these trucks is held in 3rd gear at any throttle position to a higher speed than it is in the stock factory tune. No exceptions.
What's happening here is the same old thing that is always the case - people expecting to be able to run around at very low speeds & light throttle and stay in Overdrive when the load goes up - and that simply is not going to happen. Al it takes is a few percentage points of load increase at low speeds and it's going to come out of Overdrive, it has to for proper driveability - if that bothers you, then simply turn the Overdrive off.
Remember, Overdrive is meant for ONE thing, and one thing only - to reduce engine rpms when cruising at higher speeds - not when lugging around at low speeds, and this is something that a number of people seem to not realize, or perhaps have forgotten. Overdrive is intended for when you are up to cruising speed and are staying there or very close to it, to reduce engine rpms to save fuel - it is *not* just a 4th gear that you can expect it to stay in all the time, it's a 30% overdrive that dramatically REDUCES torque multiplication - it's basic physics.
If the truck is cycling in and out of Overdrive, then simply turn the O/D off if it bothers you -
The bottom line is that there is absolutely *nothing* in *any* of our tunes that makes any of these trucks shift up into Overdrive any sooner than it did stock, or eve at the same speeds - it does not shift up into 4th gear at any given throttle position until significantly higher speeds, anywhere from 5-10mph higher than stock at the exact same throttle position - and just FYI, you can't determine if you are at the exact same throttle position without actually datalogging it - that cannot be done by seat of the pants, as just a few percent difference changes the upshift/downshift speeds, as does just a few percentage points difference in engine load at low speeds.
I hope that info helps you all to understand this a bit better,

Listen I don't want to get in a P...ing match here. All I wanted to know
is if anyone else had a similar issue I have. As I stated in an earlier post,
I have contacted Crystal and I have loaded a different tune and will drive over
the next few weeks and see if I "feel" the same issue. (by the way so far I have not, but then again I have only driven a few hundred miles with the newly loaded tune). I will then datalog and provide all the information that is needed to TP for analysis.
Maybe I am reading too much into your reply, but it seems to me that your reply is somewhat condecending.... What's up with that??????
One last thing. I did not mean to imply any negative issue with the tune you have provided. I apologize if my original post read that way.
