Edge on BRAND new FX4??

Well, I ordered a new FX4 from the dealer today. I can hardly wait 6 weeks until expected delivery. Anyway, I want to begin modding my truck by first adding an Edge Evo. I have followed this site for a while, so I know all the pros and cons of each various tuner and I think the Edge will meet my needs. My question is, after reading up in the engines forum on breaking in a 5.4, what are your opinions about using the egde on a brand new truck? I really don't see me doing any WOT pulls within say the first 1000 miles, but should I give the truck some time running the stock program? Would it be better or okay to run level one for the first few weeks? I really want to get longevity out of my engine and tranny. Thanks.

Get the Edge and use it in the 1st 1000 or so miles to get all you base line info, even if you dont use the programming the gauge is full of info.

Just because you never know what may go wrong, it would probably be best to break the engine in in stock form. You may want to go as far as exhaust and maybe a drop-in air filter, but much beyond that is asking for trouble. You *could* end up with a lemon or freak couple problems, and if you add in outside mods you add the possible factors to the problem... I say keep it stock and simple for a little bit, and then have a solid modding plan ready to go.

Also, I'm not familiar with the EDGE product itself, but I know most custom tuning it is definitely best to get your other engine mods installed FIRST, and then get the tuner to compensate for these changes for maximum results.

Good luck!

Hook it up right away so you can use all the different gauges and readouts the Edge offers, then when you feel comfortable that your new FX4 is broke in properly, add the level of tuning you want.

Even if something unforeseen crops up later, just unload the tuner before you take it to the dealerships service department.

Congrats on the new truck!

I would tune it after 1000 mile breakin. I did, however, put exhaust and the Airaid CAI on my 06 at around 100 miles! You will have to resist the temptation of 5k+ rpm shifts!

I would hook it up right away to get the gauges, but don't mess with the programming for the first 1000 miles to make sure the engine is broken in properly.

I plugged my EDGE in at 995 miles. Loaded up level two at first, but I have run a few tanks on level 3. No regrets.

What kind of numbers are you getting with your set up? I just installed the Edge today, did a couple of tests, just 0-60, not loading the motor at launch or anything. Stock 9.1, Level 2- 8.7 , Level 3 - 8.3. Scab, 4x4, 5.4 w/3.55 gears. Volant should be here tomorrow, Magnaflow SISO is in the garage waiting to be put on. How's your mileage? Stock I average 15-16 w/normal use. Thanks, Ron

My best is on Level three. 6.9s power braking. My Volant is arriving Monday, so that's not a factor in that time. I'm getting 16.4 mpg in my mixed daily commute.
