Hi Blackford,
Looks like you had a couple of issues, between the blown fuse and the undocumented PCM reflash - I hate it when dealers do that without putting the required sticker under the hood.
We've already got your new tunes done and emailed out to you, so you should be up & running by now - have fun!

Questions F150 Chips & Tuners
Hello:
Just bought my first Ford Truck. It's a 2005 F150 4.2L V6 auto. I'm interested in learning how to boost the horsepower and torque, but without decreasing fuel economy. Friends have suggested engine chips, tuners, intakes, exhaust modifications etc... This is all new to me so I don't know where to start and have many questions about what I've read here and online. Who has the experience and knowledge to discuss my questions with me? Serious replies.. No salesmen, no hype please... Sincerely, FidoFord

I ordered mine on 3/1 so I think I have 2+ weeks to wait, but I will post then.I have an 06 F150 4.2 auto so that is when I can help you better.
As far as the No salesman comment, if you read enough on the threads you would not have said that.At least not in this forum.just my opinion
Hello Fifo Ford,
Just to give you some general info, there are few people who truly have the knowledge you seek that is specific to your 4.2 V6 2005/2006 F-150, as it's an extremely low-production vehicle that almost nobody has real hands-on experience modifying. See, very few of them are made, and thus there is very little support in the aftermarket as of yet for them due to their extremely low production numbers. This will change in time hopefully, as more are made. Anyway, the point being simply that this is not knowledge you are going to find, at least, with accuracy, out in the general public at large specific to that truck - that's all.
As others have already pointed out, your comment "no salesman" was really not appropriate here, and clearly indicates a lack of knowledge about what happens here, or just what resources are actually available here, and how much help that *we* provide people here as the oldest F-150 performance experts - we are perhaps the single most important resource in this specific regard, simply because we have specialized in F-150 performance longer than anyone else, and we help people whether they do business with us or not, to the best of our ability. So it doesn't make a good impression here to say "no salesman" - obviously, who else could possibly have detailed knowledge of such a rare vehicle other than a true F-150 performance expert? The answer is virtually nobody. So I just wanted to politely point that out to you.
That being said, I certainly *do* understand your concern of not wanting sales hype!
For 14+ years we have specialized in improving the performance of this platform, testing which manufacturers parts actually deliver on their claims, and which do not, holding public dyno days to show everyone those types of results, etc. We couldn't care less what anyone claims, we *test* so that we know, as we have to be able to properly advise our customers - whose trucks, by the way, generally our-perform those of our competitors doing the same basics types of modifications thanks to our constant testing and our tuning expertise, which we are well known for.
To give you some quick background - though it is "only" a pickup truck, the F-150 is in fact the most difficult of any vehicle to modify in a consistently optimal manner, especially when it comes to tuning, which is the single best and most important bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make, as nothing else will deliver the same amount of performance improvement for the same or less cost.
You have to remember that you have a 2.5 ton tank there with the smallest & weakest engine available - and with an automatic transmission, it lays very little power to the ground - about 125 HP to the wheels in a 2WD automatic configuration - so it's very weak.
The first thing to do to improve your performance is our custom tuning, as that is the single most cost-effective performance enhancement you can make to that truck, so that is where I would start - and where most people tend to start, due to the superior bang for the buck value. To increase performance, you do not have to automatically lose MPG as well - that is a myth. The only way your mpg is going to drop is if you drive it harder or feed it lower quality fuel.
What I would suggest first is to have us do our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as that is what will get you the bet bang for the buck. Then do additional modifications until you get the performance of the vehicle up to a level that you feel is satisfactory.
The second best bang for the buck, generally speaking, is a well-designed air intake kit, however, there is to a good intake kit yet available for the 4.2 V6 new body style F-150, because so few of those trucks are being built with a 4.2 V6 - so it will take some time before we can get a number of the more common performance parts for these vehicles. Same thing goes for the exhaust side in terms of a really good cat-back exhaust - however, there you *can* do something now that will help, and that is to install a good Magnaflow muffler in place of the stock factory muffler, since your stock exhaust tubing diameter is already 2.5", and that will work nicely.
This is a quick overview of what steps should be taken at this time - if you'd like to go over this in more detail, get solid advice without sales hype, then please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below - and best of luck with your truck, whatever you decide!
