Exclamation NOOB needs help!!!!

I have a 2005 f150 fx4 screw and I would like to improve my gas mileage without a) voiding my warranty from ford and b) not losing too much power. Is there any type of tuner or programmer or chip that can help with this. Any help would be great regarding model numbers and such. Pce

Jump on the Troyer Performance group buy quick because it ends tomorrow the 10th. IMO it’s the best overall performance mod you can do. It gave me more power, much improved drivability (shifting, down-shifting, etc, etc) and better fuel economy; I got it all with Mike’s custom tunes

kcljr,

The answer to your question is a big fat NO!

Your warranty will NOT be VOID because of a tuner. If you are still uncomfortable, you could still use the tuner to put your truck back to "stock" programming and they'll never know anything about it.

Just buy the damn thing already! G/L

Hi kcljr2000,

No, that does not automatically void your factory warranty - you have the right under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act to make modifications to your vehicle, and as long as those modifications to not actually cause *damage* to the vehicle, then your warranty remains intact by law.

Now that having been said, the typical service manager may say that you can't use aftermarket tuning, for example, as they can't just give a "blanket" approval of *all* tuning, as they simply don't know what is and isn't proper in that regard, they can't see the code or what it actually does. So it gets down to using aftermarket parts that are of high quality and a well-known reputation for safety.

And whether you are under warranty or not, any time you take your vehicle in for service, you *always* want to return your tuning back to stock (which you can easily do), just in case the dealership decides they need to update the PCM with a later revision, etc. If they do that with your tuning installed, your tuning device won't work any more, and would have to be sent back in to take care of that. So for any number of reasons, you always return the vehicle back to it's stock tuning before going in for service, whether it's under warranty or not - just FYI. Once the vehicle is returned back to stock, they can't tell that tuning was installed.

Now we've specialized in the tuning of these F-150's longer than anyone else, 14 years - so we're generally known as the "go to guys" for F-150 performance in general. We have tuned literally thousands of these F-150's, and we are well known for NOT causing any damage to these vehicles in our tuning.

Just to give you an idea as to the types of things that we feel are reasonable modifications to make under warranty, things like *proper* tuning, a good air intake kit (if it's tuned for in the 2004 & up F-150), cat-back exhaust systems, electric fans, & underdrive pulleys - those types of relatively mild bolt-ons are generally fine to do, as they are not going to harm the vehicle. Now if you put a nitrous oxide kit on, or bolt on a supercharger, etc., those types of "major" mods can potentially cause the denial of some types of warranty claims - this is why the supercharger kits we well for the 2004 & up 5.4 3V F-150 have their own 36/36 powertrain warranty, for example.

To get properly informed on what your rights are under the law in terms of modifying your vehicle, drop by www.sema.org - these are the people we have to thank for most of the rights we vehicles owners have in terms of using non-factory parts. They are a wonderful organization, of which both this web site and our company, Troyer Performance, are members.

As others pointed out, this is a great time to get into our custom tuning, as we are running a Group Buy - that Group Buy expires today, Friday March 10th at 6 pm Eastern - now if you don't get a chance to see this post until sometime over the weekend, just give us a call the first of the week with your F-150 Online screen name and we'll get you in on it, if you have interest - that is what will get you the best overall results in terms of making maximum safe & sustainable power & performance gains via tuning for your F-150, and getting the best potential for mpg gains via tuning.

Now regarding gas mileage - most people do see better mpg with our tuning, especially when cruising - but I would say not to expect fuel mileage in city stop & go driving to improve significantly via tuning alone. Now we can do an mpg-specific type of tune as one of the 3 custom tunes we provide in our hand-held tuner if you like, that's one of the nice things about our custom tuning, you get a set of 3 different custom tunes set up however each individual vehicle owner prefers. Just don't expect to see 3-4 mpg gains, I'd say. 1-2 mpg is more like it.

Last - if ALL you are looking for is mpg and do not care about better performance, driveability, and all the other things that proper tuning delivers, then you can go with mods like our electric fan kit & underdrive pulleys, as they reduce parasitic losses, and thus deliver more power to the rear wheels while causing the engine to use less fuel.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have on this, or any other performance-related matter on your F-150.

I hope this brief info helps, & best of luck with your truck!
