I got around that long ago but it cost me a ton - see, whatever I do to my vehicle, I have to do to hers, too - so I can have whatever I can afford to do to all the vehicles - OUCH!
Thayer - you'll see about that when you get your unit and read the docs - we tell people it's not a good idea to flash the PCM in freezing or below temps - the PC,m can operate the vehicle at -40 below of course, but flashing it in freezing temps just isn't a really good idea. You can always bring it in the garage to let it warm up a bit, or you can start the engine and let it idle long enough to come up to full operating temperature, which in many cases will also warm the PCM (since it is under the hood above the engine on the firewall in the 2004 & up, and mostly inside the cabin on the 2003 & earlier trucks) to above freezing temps, and bring the XCal 2 from the house to the vehicle, and flash it that way - there's always a way to get it done, just don't try to flash the PCM when either the PCM or the XCalibrator 2 are at or below freezing (32F) temps, that's all. There's a bit difference between programming mode versus "normal" vehicle operations. - you will see all of that gone over in our detailed docs when your unit arrives.
This is not a hard & fast rule, we're just trying to avoid something we have seen happen on occasion in the past - where you couldn't successfully flash the PCM in freezing temperatures - so we simply recommend being just above freezing or higher to flash the PCM, for both the PCM and the XCal 2 or any flash tuner, for that matter - it's just really basic FYI stuff to avoid the *potential* for a problem in really cold weather, that's all.

I almost got sunburn shooting and 4 wheelin' last Sunday.
Hi Thayer,
Yeah, what *is* with that? Just yesterday afternoon, it was 65 degrees, nice & sunny - and then we woke up to 2 inches of snow this morning (#@U#@$ULKSI$@)!! Hope your sunburn heals nicely - right about now I'd like to be getting some sunburn!
For edisonrizon - Congrats on getting your email notification!

This is driving me nuts! Still waiting for my xcal2 and AF1. Confirmed the paperwork on 2/8 and still no ups tracking #. I see someone with a confirmation on 2/7 and will be there 3/8. Wouldn't that mean mine will be here 3/9?

Well, I called yesterday and they told me it could be up to 5 more business days. The other thing is that I called last week and they told me it should be only a week left which was okay because that would make it on time. But now so much for the 15-20 business days. I am looking at close to possibly 25 days. I know there is nothing I can do but wait. On a good note, I am pretty confident that the time waited will be made up for with the quality and performance of my order.
We all have to consider the group buy has created a spike in the demand for custom tunes. I would guess that 10-20 business days was a good guestimate for shipping but then again only so many can be completed each day. I feel pretty good that an increase in demand creates a delay in seeing the results since that hopefully equates to my order receiving the same amount of care and feeding as it would if I was the only order for a week.
I know, it's easy to be content when I keep turning my head to peep through the crack in the blinds to see if every vehicle driving by is Dale Jarrett in the big brown truck!

After reading these posts - I feel pretty lucky. All I needed to do is show the wife the sticker price of getting another truck vs. participating in the group buy for the Xcal2 (to get the extra ponies I need for pulling our home away from home). Given that I love my '98 Supercab - I am glad I didn't have to go shopping.
Thanks Mike - you save me a lot of $$ and heartache!!!

Well I've been out driving and having fun so I haven't been back to post. Ran the 87 tune for a couple tanks (done a lot of driving lately), then switched to 91 tune yesterday. Can defenitely tell a difference between 87 and 91. Overall, well worth the money, no earthshattering differences but now the truck runs like it should from the factory. Thanks Mike.
P.S. When changing from 87 to 91 tunes do I need to return to stock first? I didn't, just went straight in and uploaded the 91 tune.
