Exclamation HELP! Edge update issues...

I am still having problems using the "check for updates" function.

About 30 minutes ago, I completely uninstalled all of the Edge software and downloaded version1.02.0006 (2/10/2006) and installed it from scratch. When I ran the setup program and then connected the Edge unit, I got the USB drivers to install properly.

However, every damned time I try to "check for updates," I get the following errors:

1) "Unable to resolve connection to Web Server. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet and try again" (This makes no sense at all considering that I am always connected to the internet through broadband servive.

2) "Unable to locate Version file."

I returned the vehicle to stock before I disconnected the unit and brought it inside to link up... This is truly baffling me now...

Any help would be much appreciated!

Did you install the drivers before connecting the Edge? There is a possibility the Edge Update site was temporarily down.

Excerpt from the manual: http://edgeproducts.com/pdf/instruct...structions.pdf
Lightning® software allows the user to update their Evolution to the latest version of firmware and calibration files. It also allows you to review data from your vehicle that you’ve recorded. The software can be downloaded for free from Edge Products website at https://local.edgeproducts.com/edge/..._download.html, or the CD can be purchased for a small fee by calling (801) 476-3343.

Note: Make sure you install both the SOFTWARE and the DRIVERS that it comes with before hooking up the Evolution to your PC. Driver installation can be found under the Start Menu in “All Programs\Edge Products\USB Drivers\Install USB Drivers”. Failing to do so will cause the software to not work properly with the device.

Did you get this resolved yet? If not, let me know and I'll download the program at work and check it and see if their server is down.

Unfortunately, I am still having problems...

I keep repeating the same steps. Maybe I am missing something?

1) Put the truck back to stock
2) Uninstall all Edge software
3) Re-install most recent version
4) Load USB drivers
5) Plug in the Edge unit via the USB cable

It shows that I am connected and I can load my previous 1/4 mile times, etc... However, I still can't use the "check for updates" function. I keep getting the same error message telling me that the "Version file cannot be found".

let me download the software and run out to my truck to see if their server is down or something. Give me about 10-15 minutes.

Real quick while my software is downloading. Are you uninstalling the usb drivers then uninstalling the edge software?

Can you access their website from your regular internet browser?

If so, it is possible (assuming you are using Windows) that your software firewall is blocking the application from Internet access.

It sounds like you are uninstalling everything correctly. If the device is recognized when you plug it in, the drivers sound like they are installed correctly.

I had the exact same thing happen when I was trying to do it from my work laptop. They have all kinds a security on this thing. Then said F it, and went inside the house and used my desktop. Everything worked fine then. I would say it has something to do with a firewall, popup blocking, software or virus protection, something of that nature.

If you are using a laptop your ports may not work. That is the problem I am having. I try to use my laptop and it says unable to locate version file or it just locks up. Definitley use another computer or try a different port. I still have been unable to download updates on my laptop so I go to the hotel lobby and use their computer and everything goes fine. I called edge several weeks ago about the problem and they said it could be the port, the network, a connection, or a firewall.(in other words NO CLUE ) Definitley try to use a friends computer to get it done.

Talking Update

You guys were all 100% on the money!

*slaps forehead*

The Norton Internet Security was blocking everything from getting through...

I disabled Norton for 15 minutes and the updates came flying in.

Thanks to everyone that suggested this solution... I should have known better.

That seems a bit harsh. They gave you four clues - not zero!

Exactly what would you expect any company to do when your laptop is having configuration or firewall issues not caused by their software?

I know perhaps i was a bit harsh. I had no firewall or configuration problems. They told me their site was down but then I went to the hotel computer and everything downloaded just fine(so they lied). I Downloaded their software on my laptop fine and their drivers fine. I can read my stock calibration with their software and change the logos but cannot download updates. I believed that since it is THEIR software and there are several people who own their units that they would have a better answer than that or would have known of issues to resolve. When it came to all other questions their support was great and I was never on hold longer than 5 minutes, but when it came time to download; they got back to me a couple of days later and said they didn't know. I was just bitter that they couldn't help and didn't know where to begin.I guess i just expected a little more help, that's all.:o I did not mean to offend anyone.
