Question A few XCAL II Questions

I have a 2005 4.6L-

Is the Pcm code the one in BIG letters on the sticker,right in the middle(pics?)?
Also-I don't have a dyno facility near me, can I datalog some other way, such as through the OBD port(don't all the sensors go through there?) I have an AIRAID intake and heard that it might throw off the A/F.

What is the deal with the 87 Economy tune?

With the group buy, can I just order it through the website and recieve the discount?

Ill try to answer these to the best of my knowledge, Im sure someone smarter will come by and clarify it better for you though.

The PCM code-open your passengers door, and look to the front of the cab-where the hinges for your doors are. On that 'pillar' or whatever you want to call it, there will be one sticker-white with black lettering, that will have a 4 character code-3 letters then a number. That will be all it says on the sticker, and there will only be one sticker there.

Im not sure if you can get AF ratios through the OBD II port. You can buy a LM-1 A/F monitor for about 300 bucks-it requires getting a bung welded into your exhaust pipe for a sensor. If you can find a dyno anywhere fairly close, it would probably be much easier and cheaper to go there. Plus its always cool to see what your making for power.
There is a thing called AUTOTAP that plugs into your OBD II port and measures/monitors stuff, but Im not sure if it does A/F ratios either-it requires a laptop.

Finally, the 87 Economy is a tune to try to get the best milage possible. Im not sure exactley how it differs from a perf. tune, but I think it might have a little lower shift points, etc.

So-thats all I know (not much, as you can see), hopefully I didn't get stuff mixed up too bad and kinda know what Im talking about.

You have a newer truck and the PCM location has changed (firewall), as indicated in the post.

The only way to get accurate A/F's is with a wideband recorder ( LM-1 or similar). You can't get them through the OBD-II port. You can do this either at a dyno facility or as Bartak suggests, picking up an LM-1 (which is the route I took).

Every other required datalogging parameter can be accessed via the X2 and the port.


For the other two questions - distance from a dyno facility (there are options if you qualify) and the GB discount, call Troyer Performance directly - there are some things you will need to discuss over the phone anyway, and they can answer those questions best. But hurry - tomorrow's the last day

A search here will also provide more info why datalogging a late-model F150 with an aftermarket intake is highly recommended....

Hope you dont mind if I jump in with a question....

I ordered mine yesterday, will try and get the paper work in today....

I got the 87 Perf, 87 Tow, and 93 perf. I don't tow often but I will run 87 most of the time. I figured if a situation hit where I needed to tow more likely than not I'll have 87 in the tank. Seem reasonable?

How long does it take to reflash. Do you guys keep the Xcal in the truck for just those situations?

Can you tow something light like a single ATV or a small trailer holding yard waste without changing from the 87 perf to the 87 tune?

You can change a tune in less than five minutes. If you are going to tow anything then by all means change to the tow tune.

you would have a 87 tow tune (stock), a 87 performance, your 93 performance and still one available, imho i'd go with a 93 tow tune as well, lots of us forget about stock, I know I did. Trying to help, good luck with whatever you choose

Also, just speaking in general, with custom tuning you want to call us anyway, as we need to do a brief phone consultation with you about your mods, what types of tunes will be best for your needs etc - so for any number of reasons when it comes to our custom tuning, the best thing to do is to call us.

Now if your work situation is such that you cannot call us during our normal working hours, you can always call us after hours, and leave us a voicemail with a name & number so we can call you back - so the call is on our dime, for those who cannot make a call to us from their day job, etc. - so we'll always find a way to communicate with you!

Now with regard to your intake kit - for the Air Force One and the Airaid intake kits, we have a very good transfer function that works well even on the newest trucks - however, it's still always a good idea to get your A/F's tested so that we can "tweak" it a bit (dial it in) if need be - this is why we give you a period of 60 days, 2 months from the time you receive your tuning, to give you plenty of time to get your A/F's properly tested and get the other datalogging info that your XCal 2 can datalog, so that we can do any final dialing in that may be required.

Now that does not have to be done on a chassis dyno, there are plenty of people who use things like the LM-1, as another poster mentioned, which is a portable wideband A/F ratio recorder - and that data is fine as well.

The best thing to do is to give us a call about this and we can go over all of this with you in proper detail - the bottom line is, there is virtually always a way to get this done - give us a quick call & we'll get you in on the Group Buy, and get you a tune that will work with your Airaid intake kit!
