programer to make a diesel smoke?

as a joke I would like to make my buddies 02 f250 diesel smoke, using a programmer, I'm not experienced using these, does anyone here know if this is possible? of course I would want to be able to change back to normal when possible.

Yeah, you might want to find a different, less expensive, way to mess with his head.

Putting a performance tune in his truck would make it smoke. In gas terms I guess you could say its running richer. The smoke is a result of dumping as much fuel as the injectors are capable of into the Cyl. The pumping as much air as the Turbo can handle. The end result, More power and Black smoke. The smoke is really diesel fuel that did not get used because of lack of Air.

Will you hurt his truck? Not if the tuner/tune is correct for his year/make/model/calibration. But no smoke is really going to be noticed until he is WOT.

Hi bassackward,

*Any* programmer for that particular make & model of diesel will make it smoke at wide-open throttle, until the rpms pick up - then it will gradually stop smoking, if it's tuend well.

There is nothing (at least, that I know of, as this type of prank really isn't my bailiwick) in the way of readily available properly designed tuner that will make it smoke *all* the time - in other words, something that would make him think something is really wrong, which is what I assume you are trying to achieve.................

Last - I wouldn't expect a good reaction even if you do manage to find something that will make it smoke all the time - that really isn't funny to some people, even though you might get a great laugh from it!

Personally, I don't like people messing with my vehicles - although I must confess that your post reminds me that I did have something funny happen to me along those lines once................ Many years ago, a friend of mine (who is still a good friend) took fresh shortening (like from a restaurant deep fryer), when it was still new & unused and thus was hard & white, right out of the box, and he packed my tire treads with it - I mean solidly packed every bit of tread. Now I pull out of the parking lot gently, and slowly built up speed to about 30 mph - then I get to a traffic light, where I all but crapped my pants when the car wanted to slide right thru the intersection!!!!

I finally did manage to get it stopped, and luckily this was at a time when there was no traffic - but he and his buddies died laughing at me trying to get the car stopped, & it sliding back & forth - at the time, I was young & dumb, so once I got it stopped & realized what happened, I just laughed, too - it was a great prank. But if it happened these days, I'd probably have a heart attack!

Anyway, we all got a good laugh out of it - your post just brought back that memory, so I should thank you for your post, since it brought back a great laugh we all had at my expense.
