Curious Why So Many Now "Put Down" Superchips Microtuner?

Not all that long ago most who posted here, including Mike, used to say the Superchips Microtuner was the best(least expensive/most bang for the buck) way to improve the performance of an F150. Now, it seems those same people who used to rave about the merits of the SC Microtuner, tend to put it down as not all that great. I find it rather curious that someone who sells another product (more expensive & probably makes more money on it) would constantly recommend it over a product that he used to say was the best, even when he still sells the "other" tuner. How can a product that was the greatest only a year or so ago now not be worth buying? Granted newer & better stuff comes along, but does that then make the previous "best buy" no longer any good? I have no doubt that many of you had/have a SC Microtuner, liked it completely, and now say you would never buy it again. Anyway, I've ordered a 1745 and am sure I will like the product. I'm glad Mike sells both, have no doubts about his knowledge, only question why so many of you no longer think the SC microtuner is worth buying.

Well Bob I owned a sct 1714 (just like 1745 but for 04) now I own a 05f150 with a SCTXCAL2, and the difference is like night and day. I guess you would half to drive your truck with a xcal2 in it to understand. But if your happy with the 1745 thats great its not a bad unit for the price.

It's just like pc's. Back in the day the 333mhz computer was top of the line and the fastest thing out there. Now you couldn't pay me to work on one.

BOB,
I have had my 1715 that i bought from Troyer P. a year. I know
the new programs have a lot more. The change the 1715 made
in my truck was great. It runs all together different and the trans.
works altogether different. All for the better. I am very pleased
with the 1715. I know Mike wouldn't steer anyone wrong. If there
is a way to get more power everyone wants it hA!!! The older product
still do there job. Hang in there.

The 1745 IS the most affordable of the tuners I have found for the F150. I believe that it is still very good. BUT when new technology comes out and new vehicle designs as well; everyone quickly turns to the latest and the greatest for performance improvement and most want to buy the best for their vehicles or get " The most BANG for the buck". Because vehicles, computers and tuning has evolved I believe so have the feelings towards old technology(so to speak). I was going to buy the 1745 because of price. But I needed download update capability and the 1745 did not offer it at the time. So for anyone strapped for cash but still wants a tuner then the 1745 seems like the way to go. And how everything goes in sales "For just a few dollars more, you can get this" If cost was an issue I would go 1745, then Edge, then XCAL-2. If you think this is bad check out the Autospring threads.

In the fall of 2004 at one of the Dyno Sessions Mike had, we compared a boxed Superchips tuner( I can not remember which one) verses one of his custom tuned XCal2's on one of the vehicles that we dynoed that day. If I remember correctly there was somewhere in the excess of 25 HP and far more Lb. Ft. of torque made with the XCal2. The shift characteristics were different, the throttle response was quicker, and the overall performance was far superior with it also.
Perhaps the owner of that vehicle will happen along here and fill in some of the issues I may have forgotten.
Don't think that I am rapping any of the Superchips off the shelf tuners as they all perform the functions they were intended to. Its just that Mikes custom tuning can extract so much more (not only power) out of a vehicle..
If you expecting those or any of our Dyno numbers to be posted here, you will more than likely waiting a very long time.
Dyno time is very expensive and time consuming. It would be best if you would have your vehicle with your mods and tuning device dynoed, then you can compare them with others that have done that and posted here..

i got rid of my 1715 so i could pay for my beta edge unit. i have features superchips couldnt dream of; i loved my 1715 but i got my edge for the features and functionality.

SCT isnt a bad unit but 25 hp is a really ridiculous to claim over a 1745, i wouldnt believe it unless i saw documentation and even then id be skeptical if it was manipulated as a sales pitch. my edge felt considerably more powerful than my 1715 but by no way in hell would i say more than 10 rwhp . . my buddy's troyer XCAL drives different from my edge but i wouldnt say he has any more power . .

You just answered why dyno numbers aren't posted here.
"I wouldn't believe it unless I saw it, even then I would be skeptical if it was
manipulated as a sales pitch". Too many non-believers !!!! Good tuners (vendors) don't have to manipulate anything, their results prove it all !!!

Do you mean he gained 25 hp or 25 over the super chips tuner? How much did the super chips gain him. He could have gained as much as 35 hp over stock?

Hey Marc,
Would I gain anything power wise going from a 9100 to an xcal2. I would think the tunes would be the same?
