Xcal2 and torque converter
Xcal2 and torque converter
I also posted a similar thread in the 04-06 section, but was wondering if there is anything a program change can do for the problem?
I've been reading both here and in the tranny section, but still no real answer.
This 2005 transmission seems so different than the one in my 2002. I'm thinking its the torque converter. Its so much more obvious in the 05 -really feels like a 5th gear. The old one would lock/unlock nearly unnoticed, but this one is really obvious and annoying.
Seems like it locks up way to early and unlocks way to late. Feels like I'm driving an early 80's GM car with their OD tranny! (If you've ever been in one you'll know what I mean!). The slightest grade makes the converter lock/unlock constantly -doesn't come out of OD, but really feels like its 'hunting' between gears.
I'm using an Xcal2, by the way, and it really didn't affect this any differently than the stock program.
Is there ANYTHING that can control the RPM or throttle position that the converter locks/unlocks?

I re-read my post and it is a little confusing. The tuner didn't cause it, I'm just wondering if it can FIX it.

You are very welcome!
IN this case, what he was doing was cruising at 55-60 mph in overdrive, and going up a grade, the TQ would lock & unlock, it was just at that load point and at such a low rpm that it would cycle - so in that scenario, at those low rpms, the hot tip is to just disable O/D and let the engine turn a few more rpms and eliminate the TQ cycling in that scenario.
Its' pretty rare, but it is possible at low speeds going up certain grades to find a certain amount of grade at very low rpms in overdrive where the TQ will unlock and then lock right back up once it achieves it's speed, but then once again not have the power to stay locked up going up a grade at such low rpms in O/D.
The winterized fuels reduce power by just enough to cause this in some cases as well, so just FYI for those reading, that was what the issue was about and some of what we discussed.
