couple questions

Hey guys
had a few questions on tuning the f150's, im familar with SCT tuning as my 93 mustang has an sct chip and im a prp and xcal2 owner for the 04 stang.

What kind of gains are capable from a fairly stock 00 f150 4.6 with minimal mods. Ive heard there are a lot that can be gained with tuning even a stock truck. Is there much to be gained staying on 87 octane or are most of the gains beeing seen are from 93 octane.

Im basically looking for a bit more power overall as my pops uses the truck for towing a 5000# trailer on a pretty regular basis.

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,

What needs to be remembered is that this really shouldn't be judged only by peak HP gains, it's the part-throttle torque that helps tremendously as well - that is really the most important thing by far for any street-driven vehicle, especially a truck that is going to tow.

The gains on a 2000 4.6 F-150 from tuning for 87 octane aren't going to be huge, of course - figure about 15 HP & 23lb/ft. or so on average, and the average gains on premium fuel run about 25 HP & 36 lb/ft. or so, just to give you a rough number.

However, there are also a significant percentage of those 1997-2003 4.6 F-150's that cannot even go open loop from the factory, and in those cases, we see even more power gain.

The bottom line is that our custom tuning is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to these and most other computer-controlled vehicles, so it's always well worthwhile. We provide a set of 3 different custom tunes set up for however each individual vehicle owner prefers and their driving needs, from towing to daily riving, drag racing, off-roading, etc.

Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to get further details on this, we'll be happy to help.

Good luck with the truck!
