Hyper-tech programming

I just installed the hyper-tech power programmer 3. I noticed a little more power, but not much. Top-end a little over 110mph. 04 supercrew f-150 5.4L 3.55 gears. Also what are the rev limiter and shift point changes?

Rev Limiter, or govenor same thing. When you hit a certain Rpm, ur truck make the impression of running out of gas.
So you didn't get much out the Hypertech hu? That's good to know, I was gonna take my JET STAGE 3 out, and Buy a HYPT programmer. I did gain more acceleration and speed. But u got to do lots of mods to get the full performance of the chip, or Progrm.

Not so with a custom tuned XCal2 from Troyer Performance. Just the tuner alone makes a huge difference at part throttle all the way to WOT... better gas mileage too

My top end with a tp xcal II is 140 mph.

Be warned though, i would not suggest testing that speed very often as a stock F150 isn't really designed to keep under control at those speeds.

my top speed is about 120mph... i hit 118 but i think it could have gone higher if i had more road... That is with my Edge programmer, and Exhaust. But then again my truck is a 4x4 screw LIFTED on 35's. my truck weights 6400lbs and is not what we call AeroDynamic.

Call hypertechs tech line and they'll help you to do what you're wanting to do. They will guide you though it step by step until you feel you have it right.

How did you measure your speed? Our speedometers only go to 120.

It’s just a guesstimates when the speed odometer needle is pointing straight down. You could always pen-in some extra numbers

It's pretty easy. You can just calculate it based on the RPMs your turning.

Mines only seen 130 once. You shoulda seen the look on the kid in the BMWs face.

The rpm would make sense. When i hay my truck dynoed, they ran it up to like 135 in 3rd gear but that was with NO WIND resistance. (Like that matters, LOL). 140 is STOUT in our trucks. I think my Cobra would only do 140 or so with exhaust, gears and an e303 cam.

With my current setup, 130mph is about 4900RPM in 3rd gear. It really surprised me too, and it was still pulling at that speed.

Hyper-tech programmer 3

I gather from thin info, that the trick to the top end is to increase rev limiter and turn the over drive off.

Hi Swollen Root,

You will get your highest top speed in a very mildly modified truck like that by running it in 3rd gear, turning Overdrive off in other words, just like you said. In other words, the engine cannot turn enough rpms in Overdrive to get close enough to the HP peak to pull any more rpms with that kind of wind resistance.

To give you an idea of what is possible with great custom tuning, when our 2004 5.4 3V F-150 SuperCrew 4x4 Lariat was brand new, it was the first 5.4 3V to be tuned in the aftermarket. It hit the dyno stock at 219 HP & 287 lb/ft., and when we were thru, it showed 247 HP & 350 lb/ft. at the rear wheels, for a gain of 28 RWHP & 63 lb./ft. of torque at the rear wheels. Now granted, we spent hours massaging it on the dyno, and had it tuned to the "nth" degree, so to speak, so it was running very well and gave us excellent results.

It is a 6200 lb truck with nothing on board, and with no gimmicks, the mirrors fully extended, the tailgate up, no lowering, etc, meaning bone-stock in every other way other than just the tuning, I wrapped the speedo past 120 until it hit the letter "I" in the word "Lariat" that appears at the bottom of the speedo on Lariat models with the center console shifter - and it was still pulling at that point, but it was taking too much room to keep it under control, so I backed off - I had one other person on aboard plus me and some test gear, so this was at a weight approaching 6800 lb with a full tank of fuel, and we calculated the speed before I let off to be 138 mph - with only our tuning.

Just give Hypertech a call and see if they can help you with this, OK? And I wouldn't try for 140 mph on the stock suspension & tires, they just aren't up to it, trust me!

Good luck!

I took the truck out again today. Man it seems like it is getting faster and faster the more I drive it. I guess it takes the tuning a while to take full effect? Thanks for all the advise.
