Now the gains get smaller.

IF IT WERE ME, I would go with a Magnaflow cat back exhaust system, then Efans, then underdrive pulleys.

Many feel the AF1 intake should be the next step, but I have always hesitated on that as I can't get a feel for sure if the mod is worth it.

It won't make it loud inside if you get the right exhaust. Go to www.flowmaster.com and you can hear sound clips of all their mufflers to get a feel for the noise level you'd like.

I'd go catback next. Then, depending on how far you plan to go with it, I would look into Flex-a-lite's efan conversion. Its simple to install, and fits directly into the factory position. I personally woulnd't do the underdrive pulleys, as the gain isn't really worth the loss in charge and cooling capacity.

Any performance muffler, Magnaflow, Flowmaster, etc, etc is going to increase cabin noise, that’s a given. Bye how much and is there cabin drone is the real issue.

Hi Swollen Root,

The smart thing to do is to of the mods in the order of best bang for the buck, using the part that actually does the best job in each individual area. To do that, you have to know just which parts actually do the best job in each area of modification, and that is something that is done by us, as we have specialized in F-150 performance for 14+ years.

What you have now in terms of the intake is only a drop-in air filter element, which does extremely little for power, and nothing you could ever actually feel - the drop-in filter gets you maybe 2-3 HP on a late-model truck, whereas you can get far larger gains with the best intake kits. The two that gain the largest amount of power are first, the Air Force One, gaining 20 HP at just 2000 rpm, and 25 HP at 3000 rpm rear wheel - that alone will make a noticeable difference, especially right off the line, where these trucks need it most, and in the part-throttle torque - so with either of those two intake kits, you get both large HP gains as well as nice torque gains right from off-idle, doing a far better job than just a drop-in filter.

From there it's on to the exhaust, and hands down, Magnaflow is the way to go - they gain the most HP and do not cause the reduction in torque that is seen in systems like Flowmaster and so many others - any of them that use the baffles & chambers inside the mufflers are generally going to cause the reduction in part-throttle torque and smaller HP gains due to reducing exhaust gas velocity, so exhaust is an area where you really need to be careful in your selection.

From there's, the next mods would be things like underdrive pulleys & electric fans, the combination of which will get you well over 20 HP at the rear wheels as well as better fuel mileage, too.

Next up from there is a matter of how far you want to go - longtube headers & high-flow cats, supercharging, ported heads, ignition system upgrades, etc.

We can literally take these trucks as far as any owner wants to go, and lay out the most affordable & best bang for the buck modification path no matter what your present mods are. If you;d like to go over this in proper detail and get solid advice from F-150 modification experts, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below. There are a lot of opinions available, and that's fine - but facts based on actual testing and the expertise of professionally modifying these vehicles for 14+ years are more productive accurate in terms of actually getting the best performance from the vehicle and knowing which parts actually do the best job in each area, and that is what we do - so if we can be of any assistance to you, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over all the various details with you - how you use your vehicle, what's done to it right now, and then exactly what will do the best job for you in terms of further increasing performance in the most cost-effective manner, etc., without any sales pressure - we also offer special discounts to registered members of F-150 Online like yourself, and can provide any of these products for you, if you like.

One last thing to remember - when you want to get more performance from your vehicle, if necessary, wait so you can save up more money to be able to afford to use the best parts in each area of modification, from tuning to intake to exhaust to all the other areas - that gets you much better performance improvements and assures you of getting a truck whose performance you can really enjoy & be proud of - just FYI.

Thanks for your post, & good luck with your truck!
