Xcal2/datalogging/differences after a retune...
I got the email that my Xcal2 is on it way - very excited about that. I was wondering what differences folks have noticed after they datalogged their trucks and sent the xcal2 back for a retune. I have an 05 screw 5.4 3v 4x4 and ordered an 87 tow, and an 87 and a 93 performance tune.
Just curious....I haven't read the datalogging instructions to closely but it seems like the Xcal2 is easy to use for datalogging. and I also have a laptop I could use...

Hi tdmr,
It's not a matter of "noticing anything" after we make tuning adjustments based on the datalogging - that's not how it works.
It's not like you are suddenly going to gain *another ADDITIONAL 30 Hp after you datalog. Let me try to explain - you datalog to see the *effects* of how the vehicle is running in whatever mechanical configuration you have it in, in conjunction with our tuning loaded - and then IF that data shows any adjustments are needed, we make those adjustments and send them to you.
Now you might not feel anything at all different - most people don't, and you're not supposed to feel anything different. You can't feel the difference between 12.7:1 and 12.0:1 in the A/F ratios, for example, and that is primarily what the datalogging is for, to insure proper A/F's.
So don't think of this like you are supposed to "feel" something different when we make tuning adjustments *if* they are actually needed. It's fine tuning, nothing more.
Now just to give you an idea of a worst-case example, on a truck that was running dead lean in bone stock trim right from the factory, and where the owner had also put an intake kit on his 5.4 3V F-150 leaning it out even more - well, in that worst-case scenario, that one gentleman went from about 210 RWHP to 255 RWHP - a whopping 45 HP gain at the rear wheels after our adjustment!! So in *his* case, he felt a HUGE difference!!
But keep in mind, and this is important, that is NOT normal, nor is that ever to be expected - it's just what happened on that one particular truck that I'm sharing with you, that's all.
We change only whatever it takes to make the A/F's correct and maximize what's there - it's not like your baseline custom tuning that we originally send out is "bad" or way off, the only time it needs significant correcting is when the vehicle isn't running correctly to begin with *before* we ever tuned it in the first place, in other words.
I hope that gives you a much better perspective on this - just remember, in most cases the truck is generally going to feel exactly the same as it did before, unless the truck was running very poorly to begin with.
If you have any other questions about this, just give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over that with you.
