Finally Ate My First Chevy

Isn't it always the case...it seems like everyone wants to race you prior to you making any mods, and once you have your truck modded up and ready to go, you just never seem to pull up to another truck or for that matter, any one else worth spending your expensive gas on at the light!!! Well, almost exactly one month after I had my XCAL 2 TROYER Custom Tunes installed, I was coming home from a late night out and there was no other traffic behing me...I thought great, another boring quite ride home...Anyways, I had a green light at the intersection...and at that same time, There was a black lifted Chevy Crew Cab making a right going in my direction....I felt my lips water and prayed whoever was driving this truck pulled up on me....The speed limit was 35, so I was just coasting and I had the Chevy in my rear view mirror the whole time. From the time I had crossed the intersection, to where he made a right, I was well ahead of him. Suddenly, I noticed him hauling @$$ and before I knew it, he was less then a truck length behind me....at this point, I had to stop myself from punching it, but I had self control, turned Overdrive off and waited till he got right next to me ready to pass.....finally, I nailed it...and I was gone ..IT WAS A JOKE...to tell you the truth, I felt kinda bad.... Yeah right!!. At this point, I slowed down since I was well over 70 in what felt like just seconds and came up on a red light. Once again, I looked to my right and the Chevy wanted more. I heard him power braking ready to roll, so I clicked my overdrive back on, and just sat idling nice and steady while listening to him burn his gas. The light turned green, and we were off, he got a little quicker jump due to the fact that my tires spinned for about 1/2 a second longer than his, but once they caught, it was once again a joke, I pulled his @$$ from the get go and it was a no contest after that......for old time sakes, I had to give him the Caution lights... Anyways, for those with the AF1 or the AirRaid intake installed as well as the Magnaflow SISO along with the now high rev's these truck gets with MIKE's custom tunes know how awesome of a sound these trucks make...almost brings a tear your eyes. Thanks to Mike...I LOVE MY TRUCK!!

That's great tigg. I have a friend at work that's always ripping the other guys truck since he has a chevy with the denali program. He said he has connections at a dealership and they shot it for him. He swears by it. The denali program, denali program. I can't wait till I get the tp stage 1 kit just to shut him up. Anyway, keep it safe on the streets and happy dusting.

I have. I have the x-cal II also and run it on 93 perf tune all the time. I beat a friend of mine in a new Titan 4x4 demo from about a 40mph roll all the way to 90 or so. When we let off I had him by about 4 truck lengths. I agree....Troyer tunes rock!

Hi Tigga,

Congrats on your first Chevy kill, and it sounds like it was a very good one!

Glad you finally got a chance to have some real fun taking one on - and as you can see from other posts, yes, it is common for Troyer-tuned F-150's to put Titans down, too.

Be careful & have fun out there!

Engine longivity with Toyer tune???? My 5.4 3v stock can hold it's own with any stock truck out thier, and yes, I want more power but I want the truck to live as long as possible.
How are the engine component's-valve and cam, transmisson going to surive being beat on over the long haul?
Please don't view this as a critasim, as I know little regaurding coumputer management, and more hp is welcome, but why did Ford not tweak thease trucks factery direct?
do you have to add a cold air intake, headers, dual EX, for a maxium effect a tunner can work off of? or is reprograming all you need?

The longevity of those components depend more on you that the Troyer tuning. If you drive it no harder than you did when it was stock, it should have at least the same service life that it would have had if you left it stock.

Hello Cyclone,

I would suggest that you spend some time actually reading the appropriate posts here before assuming, without knowing anything about what we do, that we must somehow be hurting these vehicles - or that only Ford knows best, etc., as that is basically malarkey, my friend.

There is no shortening of the powertrain with our tuning - as always, it is the DRIVER and the VEHICLE MAINTENANCE that determine the powertrain's lifespan - not whether it makes another 10% or 25% peak power when pushing to it's absolute limit. For example, even with supercharger kits, when designed properly, there is no reduction in powertrain service life, such as with the Roush kit for the 2004 & up F-150 - and they back that up with a 36/36 powertrain warranty, as well as put that kit right thru all of Ford's own durability testing, which includes things like 200 hours non-stop at wide-open throttle, among many other durability tests.

It's in the quality of the components used, and the knowledge of the tuner/modifier, and most people with expensive new vehicles come to a specialist like us for their mods to be safe, as by specializing in this platform for 14+ years, we *know* what can and cannot be done in this regard. And as anyone can quickly see in a few minutes of reading posts here, we have people who have been using our tuning for hundreds of thousands of miles with no ill effects - if we routinely damaged vehicles, obviously we'd be out of business pretty quick, instead of being America's foremost F-150 performance specialist.

To get more comfortable with all of this, I would suggest spending some time here with the SEARCH feature and reading the posts of those who have used our tuning in their vehicles for years, as well as the other very basic questions you asked, as all the info anyone could ever want along has long since been asked & answered here literally thousands of times - this is just FYI so you'll know.

Such as why the automaker does not tune them like we do, that is extremely basic. First, they can't, as they are not allow to be the bean counters, who are far more concerned with maximizing vehicle sales than with making these vehicles do what they have been engineered to be capable of doing, for example. Second, they have far different priorities, they could care less if the tranny takes a dump at 37K miles as long as it feels "smoother' so more women will buy them - well, we DO happen to care about the longevity of the various powertrain components, and know far more about that than any average vehicle owner ever will, just like we probably don't know much about whatever it is you do for a living - you get my point, I'm sure.

The bottom line is that there is NOTHING that is damaged or that has it's service life shortened by our tuning. In fact, it's just the opposite - automatic transmissions tend to last longer with our tuning than with the factory's tuning, thanks to the reduction in slippage. Heat is the #1 enemy of any auto tranny, and we reduce that by reducing slippage, just for one quick example. It's a matter of really knowing what you're doing, actually having proper knowledge of this particular platform (which we have specialized in for 14+ years) and it's weaknesses & strengths that allows us to add very significant power and performance gains and not hurt the vehicle.

And don't forget one last obvious point, which is that you can take a bone-stock vehicle of any kind and drive it like a race car, and shorten it's service life tremendously. Most people who modify their vehicles take extremely good care of them to provide that nice new $40K investment!

I hope that brief info helps to give you a little bit better perspective on this & happy reading! Also, if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, feel free to give us a call & we'll be happy to go over this with you, OK?

Mike, why don't you do us all a favor and drop the attitude.

Cyclone made no assumptions or accusations. He, politely in my opinion, asked some basic questions.

What is your problem? I am starting to see a serious pattern in your posts with putting words in other people's mouths. That, and your attitude stinks.

Lighten up Francis. 25 posts and you see a pattern??? I run Mike's tuning and have read pretty much every post he ever made. I'm not some young punk with more money than brains. I've been hot roddin stuff for 30 years. This man knows what he's talking about with these trucks. Just accept that and move on.
