Just filled out my paperwork
Just filled out my paperwork
This is my first post on this site though I have spent some time lurking and learning.
I just filled out my paperwork from Troyer Perf. for a x-cal2.
I'm hoping I get the same results for my F-250 that most of you brag about on here with your 150's.
While Anita was taking my order today I asked a question she said she had never been asked befor.
I asked if Mike had a special tune for snowplowing. Now living up here in Michigan winter means snow, and snow means money, and the more snow you can push means the more money you can pocket. RIGHT????
She 2-wayed Mike to get me an answer right away. Mike said good question but no. Would be about the same as a tow tune. Low RPM torque. Guess I can agree with that.
Anyway.....I'm faxing in the morning and will be anxiously waiting

Hi orvs4me,
That is a great question, and one that has come up here from time to time - but it hasn't come up in a good while now.
Basically, when you are doing snow-plowing, we regard that as a slightly modified version of a "towing" type of application - meaning, we're talking about heavier loads where speeds can vary from almost nothing to maybe 25-35 MPH or so, and what you really need is maximum torque - but also in the case of an automatic transmission model, the least possible slippage in the tranny, as snowplowing is pretty abusive to the tranny due to a lack of airflow from road speed, so we want to keep the tranny fluid temps down, too.
I do think it's a good idea to just let our people know that you are doing snowplowing when ordering your tuning, just so they can make a note of that on the form, because if there happens to be anything specific within the PCM software for your *particular* vehicle that I feel would help that specific type of use, then I will make those types of changes - otherwise, it's basically a very slightly modified towing tune.
A towing type of tune has richer A/F ratios for the engine, in order to keep the EGT's (exhaust Gas Temperatures) as well as the exhaust valve temperatures down as low as possible - that's where you get the real killer effects, is in the EGT's & valve temps, as well as making sure we have as little slippage in the automatic tranny (if so equipped) as possible.
So that's really about it - it was funny, as Anita 2-way'd me about this literally as I was right in the middle of a concrete pour at the new shop, so shew couldn't have called me at a worse time!!!
So I was a bit short with her, but luckily this did not require any kind of detailed answer - the best way to describe it is basically a very slightly modified version of a "towing" style tune for snowplowing, and we have a number of people who do that that we have tuned for this specific purpose, so it's easy for us to do.
Good luck with that snowplowing business!

Faxed in the papers last night.
Must have mentioned "snowplow" six times or so.
Thanks for the reply Mike. I feel confident that what ever changes you make to the programs for plowing will be better for my trucks disposition.

Hi orvs4me,
OK, sounds like you have that topic very well covered on your CPW's, then - excellent!
We'll make sure you're getting everything you can from the powertrain's programming to help you in that regard, and for the other types of tunes you selected as well - and thanks for your order!

I too just faxed my paperwork in on Tuesday, Jan.3. It seems as though it has been eternity already. I suppose that patience is a virtue.

Hello Green1340,
Actually, your paperwork was received here January 4th - which was only 3 business days ago, so you have a ways to go yet. As everyone is told when they place their order, the normal turn-around time for our custom tuning runs anywhere from a low of 10 to as much as 20 business days from the time we get the CPW's until the time we have your tuning completed and are ready to ship it out the door. Not calendar days, business days. We do our best to let everyone know what they are in for, and virtually everyone is happy to do that so they can get the best custom tuning for their truck. this is all just FYI, as you probably know all of this already, of course.
We know everyone wants their tuning immediately, but it has to be remembered that this is NOT some standard of-the-shelf product - it's a *custom* made product that is done, one tune at a time, custom, for each individual vehicle and it's owner - that takes time, just as the best always does.
We thank you for your patience, and we will also send you out an email with your UPS tracking number the second it ships, so you'll know when to expect it. Thanks very much for your understanding on all of this, we greatly appreciate your faith in us & it will be well worthwhile when you get your tuning.
So yes, I guess you could say patience is a virtue - just as it always has been! We'll make that wait just as short as we can for you (without compromising or rushing anything or anyone's tuning, of course), & thank you very much for your order!
Hang in there,
