Well which is it? You seem to not really know what you said. Maybe you should go back and read your previous posts before you call the Man out here in this forum.

This is the second time I have encountered you on this forum and it's the second time you have put words in my mouth to facilitate whatever point you were trying to make. Frankly, I don't appreciate it.

I figured I could try out the programming that came with the XCal2 I bought on Ebay and then order programming specifically for my truck (via email update) but the performance of the vehicle was so far from my definition of "improved" that I intend to see what happens with Offroadmaniac before I go any further. Offroadmaniac seems to be experiencing what I did, and if he is then something is definitely not right. The truck may be faster with your tuning loaded but only under WOT. Under any other throttle condition it is a dog.

Now, I saw no issue with at least trying to see what your programming was like considering that most other tuners are advertised for use with a range of model years which indicates that there isn't a huge difference between otherwise identical trucks with different PCM codes. If there were, how could one canned tune work on so many of them?

In any case, for the interested parties, here is what the Troyer documentation says:

"Vehicle is a 2005 Ford F-150 w/5.4 3V V8 & 4-speed Automatic Transmission, Computer Code TEM5"

Mine is a 2006 Ford F-150 w/5.4 3V V8 & 4-speed Automatic Transmission, Computer Code HFJ1

YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING, RIGHT???
I can't even imagine that someone would attempt to tune a vehicle with any programmer that is not suitable to the computer ID code !!!!! What you have attempted to do is tune your vehicle with a non-compatible tuner, as you have a completely different computer in your vehicle.....Then you have the nerve to come here and question Troyers tuning ability per your results?? If you have read anything on this site you , KNOW BETTER than to attempt what you did...Your lucky if you did not cause permanent damage to your vehicle....

What don't you understand about the words " custom tuning " ?

Loading someone else's custom tunes is crazy, not even the same code..... could get expensive.

WRONG! XCALs do not have canned generic tunes.

Different years and codes and different strategies and calibrations. Surprised it runs at all!

Back on topic-
Mike,
I called today to verify that my truck hadn't been reflashed, and it hasn't. I know the next step would be to get you the datalogging. I am currently trying to find a local dyno, since my laptop won't be fixed anytime soon.

I recieved my pullies from you today. I'll probably get them on this weekend. I'm looking forward to it. I might also install my stock wheel/tires to see what kind of difference that makes. Not to mention I have a vibe, and I need to know whether it's the truck or tires.

Thanks for your help.

You seem to have the same trouble reading my posts that Mike does.

I never said his tuning was at fault.

I'll wait here while you frantically go re-read my earlier posts and try to prove me wrong.

Back? Ok, now hopefully you have calmed down and have seen that all I said is that I tried the tune I bought and had the same experiences as the original poster of this thread.

If you took that to mean that I was saying Troyer's tuning is at fault then that is your problem, not mine. I'll give you a hint, it's called "jumping to conclusions".

I readily admit that I am fully aware of possible conflicts between between different pcm versions and I certainly wasn't going to hold Troyer responsible if my truck didn't run flawlessly. Again, all I said was that my truck had an issue that was similar to what the OP described.

My problem, and thus my harsh words, with Mike was his statement that "there is no way you purchased a "Troyer-tuned XCal 2" on EBay" which to me indicates that I was lying. I also took offence to the implication that I claimed to have a vehicle that was "custom tuned by Troyer". I made no such claim as I realise that buying someone else's custom tune doesn't mean my truck has a custom tune.

But then I never said it did, did I?

Riiiiight.

I'll explain this concept as best as I can. If you still don't understand after I finish this post then I'm sorry. I can't help you.

We will take this statement first: "I purchased a Troyer tuned Xcal2 on Ebay"

I purchased an Xcal2 on Ebay. The seller had purchased this device from Troyer, with Troyer's custom tuning, for his truck. He has the documentation for this so that means that this Xcal2, which I purchased, on Ebay, had Troyer's tuning loaded on it.

Ok, so all of that means that I did, in fact, "purchase a Troyer tuned Xcal2 on Ebay".

I hope I didn't lose you there.

Now moving on to the other statement: "I never said you tuned my vehicle Mike."

This one is very simple. I never claimed to have ordered the Xcal2 from Mike. Thus, I never claimed that Mike tuned my vehicle.

Now did you get all of that Skippy? If not, try reading it again. Preferably when sober.

In all fairness now please accept the following, in that what Mike meant is that he does NOT sell his custom tuning on ebay..We all understand what you bought, and evidently experienced what happens when you attempt to use tunes written for another vehicle and PCM. My suggestion is that you have the tuner redone for your PCM, and to your trucks needs. Good luck.
