High Octane or Trailer tune?

Sorry if this question was asked before. I tow a 2 place enclosed smowmobile trailer about 2500 lbs. Technically its safe to trail a light trailer like this in high octane mode. Is there an extra advantage to using the trailer mode for me? Delayed shift points? more torque? Will it even matterin my case? Thanks for the imput.

Mike Troyer has been quite adamant about NEVER towing without the tow tune loaded. Don't even pull someone out of a ditch! Very Risky. Its about engine load and exhaust gas temps which won't give you any sort of warning before doing serious damage.

As long as your high octane mode is the 93 tow tune.

I have the 93 perf and the 93 tow so I can just switch back and forth if I need to tow.

Me too and it works great! Although out here we can't get 93 octane, only 91

I set up for 91 tow/perf and after I get the Travel trailer settled in and parked at destination I tune back to 91 perf. Piece-O-cake

HI mxzdude,

AS always, CHECK your DOCUMENTATION - it depends on what tuner you are using, whether it's a "standard" off-the-shelf Superchips tuner like a 1715, 1714, or 1745, or if it's our Troyer Performance *custom* tuning, etc.

For example, in any of *our* performance tunes, you cannot tow - the EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures) are the factor there, we don't want them getting too high and damaging exhaust valves & seats, etc.

Some of Superchips Inc's off-the-shelf tuners allow you to tow up to 4000 lb on certain so-called "performance" tunes, etc.

The key thing here is that it depends on just what kind of tuning you have, and who did it - so check your documentation that came with your tuner and follow it's instructions to be safe - never just assume that you can tow 2500 lb on a "performance" tune.

See, what we have to watch out for is that people will always carry things too far - if we said it's OK to tow 2500 lb on a towing tune, someone would say well, I'm going to go ahead and tow 4000 lb - or 6000 lb - we've seen it happen too many times. People are people (which is how they are supposed to be, of course!), and will in many cases push the limits. So in *our* Troyer Performance custom tuning, our towing tunes are safe to the full rated towing capacity of the vehicle from the factory, and our *performance* tunes you should not tow with - though you *can* load the vehicle itself up to it's maximum rated ON-BOARD weight capacity with our performance tuning (unless someone asks us to make a drag-race only type of tune, for example), as that is, we feel, the best way to handle it.

Different companies handle this different ways, which is why you must check your documentation.

Good luck!
