1715 questions
1715 questions
I have been doing searches all night and I am still a bit confused.
Don't all of the model 1715 tuners have the same programs/tunes loded into them. I have read a good number of threads that said that it is not the tune but the tuner. if i buy a 1715, am i the tuner??
What are the down sides to buying one used? If it was put back to stock before I buy it, how would it differ than buying one new?
What damages can be done to the tranny or motor from using one?
I have done searches, but I just had a few more ?? I needed answers to.
Thanks in advance.

Im no expert but the 1715 comes tuned from superchips.I had one before. Some have a single program, some have 3. U cannot change the tuning in them only adjust some features.the custom tuning programmer would be something like the Xcal from SCT. the downside of buying a used one is the program not being in the tuner youll get a VIN locked code. also some of the previous ones only have one program mandatory 2 use 91+ octane the newer ones u can use 87 octane No damage 2 tranny it helps out shift points and firmness atleast thats what I noticed. Never had any engine probs. no pinging or anything bad. Hope this helps
Hi Fast636,
The first thing you have to decide is if you want the best, or cheap - if all you care about is cheap, then you aren't going to be "fast" - and that really isn't the best way to modify a vehicle for more performance.
And no, buying a 1715 used is NOT the same thing as buying it new. You have no warranty, no Tech Support, etc., as you are nobody's customer - you bought it used, so you are strictly on your own, as well as being as the mercy of whether it was returned back to stock or not, and so you basically have no recourse. Now if it's from a fellow F-150 Online member sold here in the F-150 Online Classifieds, then that might be worth taking a chance on.
However, if you are really interested in pumping up the performance of that vehicle, you will get more than double the power gains from our Troyer Performance custom tuning than you will get from any 1715, and you will also have far more features, adjustability, and the future built in, too - and forgive me for playing salesman, that's just the truth of the matter, and there are plenty of posts from our customers here you can read to see what *they* have to say - so these are things you will want to give some thought to.
For me, I'm the kind of guy that even if I have to wait longer, I want the *best* I can get - you may feel differently, but whatever you do, do NOT shop tuning based primarily on price, as that only guarantees you the worst possible results, and puts you at some risk.
So give this some thought, feel free to call us if you lie, and take your time reading here in the F-150 Online classified Ads to see if a fellow F-50 Online member may be parting with a 1715 that is new enough to be a 3-program model.
I hope that info helps. & best of luck whatever you decide!
