What chip is the best for me?
What chip is the best for me?
I have been reading about all of the different chips available and am unsure what is best for my application. I live in Michigan and pull a 28' snowmobile trailer up and down hills to the Upper Peninsula. It weighs approx 5000-6000 lbs. loaded. I have a 2004 Supercrew FX4 with the 5.4 and a 3.73 axle. I am looking for better towing performance. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks for the help.

HI MMarchad,
First, welcome to F-150 Online!
Second, you cannot use any kind of traditional "chip" on your vehicle, you have the new 2004 F-150, and the way it must be tuned is by using a flash device that connects to your vehicle's OBD-II port - which is far easier than installing a traditional chip, and gives you far more as well.
You need not only better towing performance, but better performance all around, as yo have an extremely heavy vehicle there - 3 tons with a tank of fuel and you on board, easily - so even when not towing, it's a real pig, especially with the extremely poor throttle response that is part of it's ETC (electronic throttle control) system.
What will get you th every best result is to have us do our Troyer Performance custom tuning in the XCalibrator 2 - we have specialized in the tuning of the F-150 platform longer than anyone else, and have tuned more of them and are well known for our results - which is why most people here use us and rave about their results, as you will see as you read more & more posts here.
We take care of all of that, more power, much better throttle response (getting rid of that terrible throttle lag present in all 2004 & up F-150's), and so much more, including much better automatic transmission shift characteristics that help it to last longer as well. You will have as much hp & torque as possible with our custom tuning, and not just at full-throttle, but all the time, at any throttle position or rpm or vehicle speed - and *that* is the real key to satisfactory towing performance, is the increased torque on part-throttle. This reduces the number of downshifts going up those grades, and tends to help fuel mileage a little bit as well feeling so much more responsive and more fun to drive no matter how you operate the vehicle.
Spend some time treading any of the many posts from customers of ours here who rave about our tuning, & of course, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over all of this in more appropriate detail.
We cannot discuss any specific pricing here, but because you are a registered member of F-150 Online, you do get a special discount from us on all of our tuning products - and proper tuning is the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement - whether you are towing, daily driving, or actually drag racing - that you can get for these vehicles. Feel free to give us a call at our number listed below to go over all of this in proper detail.
Congrats on having a beautiful late-model FX4, that is really quite the vehicle - best of luck with it, & we hope to be able to work with you on improving it's performance!

Thanks again Mike.
I am looking forward to waking my truck up.

AF1 info
HI Mmarchand,
This is the Computer Chips & Programming section, so we really need to try to keep things on topic here (even as much as you see some of us stray, myself included!!) - you can use the F-150 Online SEARCH feature to retrieve & read any of hundreds upon hundreds of previous posts that contain all of that info & more. All the info you could possible want on all of that is already posted here, and then feel free to give us a call at our number listed below for further details.
Tuning timeframe runs about 14 business days from the time you complete our CPW's (Custom Program Worksheets) until the time we have the tuning done and it's ready to ship. We are knocking them out as quickly as possible for Christmas, too!
Just FYI - we do run a special combo deal for F-150 Online members on the AF1 & our custom tuning (in the 9400 XCalibrator 2) combo, so that is the hot tip.
Just give us a quick shout for further details, & thanks for your post!
