ECM Unlock Fail
ECM Unlock Fail
i just got my Xcal II in today its unlocked but will not load tune to my truck everytime it tells me turn key on i do so then it said ECM unlock fail. ive tried it about 15-20 times no and still no luck. anyone got any input on why it dont like me:-p
i didnt buy it from mike. but the sct will upload tunes fine. and will clear my codes and perform every other function fine even livelink. but every time i try to load the tune it gives me that error.
Sounds like the wrong PCM code. Did Ford reflash your PCM? If it is used, could it still be locked to another vehicle? Good luck man, I hope you get it worked out.

That e-bay deal on your X2 may have netted you a sweet price on the hardware, but it looks like your 'tuner guy' needs some basic training.
Job 1 would have been for him to unlock the X2 from the previous owner. Since it's possible but unlikely that you had a dealer reflash of your PCM on your '97, the original code on the door sticker, if suppled, should be valid. If it was reflashed, there should be a new sticker somewhere with the updated code.
So, if it's not a pcm code issue, then you are left with a tuner error (the guy, not the hardware).
Did you get the documentation when you bought it? Have you asked the tuner who programmed the X2? Did the tuner supply you with any datalogging advice/instructions, or offer to tweak the tunes for a reasonable fee when/if datalogged? No? WTF not ?
Try posting your Q over @ SCT too. Good helpful folks there as well.
Please, do the Right Thing - as stated above - contact Mike Troyer to get it programmed properly. Not the cheapest, but the best.
Sorry, but I did say in a previous post - I told you so ...
On a lighter note, very nice heads you scored in the engines forum. Good luck with those, and your X2, man. I DO mean that.
And Happy Thanksgiving!
Cheers
Vic

I think your Xcal is still locked from the previous owner. Even if it were programmed for the wrong PCM code, it would still load, but it just wouldn't work

my ECU has been updated to the latest update was years ago. but i havent even gotten ahold of my tuner to help me out and figure out what the problem is. im getting ahold of him tomorrow since hes been away for thx giving but hopefully we will get it all sorted out. but im sure its just my user error and ill get a tune from him. cause im pretty sure its just not the right tune for my ECM. they had same issue when finding the program for my chip. but ill keep yall updated they for the somewhat positive and please kiddo's keep the negative to yourself

yeh thats what im needing. the right tune to upload. i felt dumb but i was so agravated with it not working(had to hit the learning curve on how to work the thing) that i didnt think to realise ohh helps if i am trying to upload a tune with a tune specific for my ECU. so that is likely my issue with ECM unlock fail its trying to upload a tune for the wrong ECM so its giving me the error. but hopefully tomorrow Mark will hook me up for a good price if not a barder.
