Is anyone running a factory SCT Xcal2?

I was thinking about buying the Xcal without custom tuning. I only want to adjust for tire size, but want the ability to upgrade later on. If anyone here is running a SCT company tuned Xcal2, are you happy with it? I figured later on when I get inot modding the truck more, I will look into the Troyer tune.

So really for now my only goal is to adjust tire size, and crisp up the throttle response some. Any input? All the threads I read are about Xcal's with custom tunes, so sorry for another SCT post

Some of the cheaper XCal2’s you see out there will have a canned tune put on them but it’s still specific to the PCM code. The Xcal 2 is only for custom tunes so whomever you get it from will have to load something on there specifically for your trucks PCM code so IMO you might as well start at the top and go with TP right off the bat

Ah, ok. I understand now. I figured it was like Superchips or Hypertech that put a generic tune on from the factory, and others like Troyer was modding his own. That clears up a lot for me. I will go directly to Troyer then. Thank you.

HI Joey,

John's advice (jpdadeo) was right on the money - not only that, but even SCT will tell you that our tunes are making more power and delivering better performance than theirs are. Again, it all gets down to the fact that we specialize in tuning these vehicles, and we have custom tuned far more of them than SCT or anyone else - it all gets down to the sheer amount of R&D that is put into the tuning, so if you want the best results, just go with our Troyer Performance custom tuning.

Please feel free to give us a call if you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, & congrats on your new 2005 F-150!

Thanks for the great replies so far. I am really enjoying this site and my new F-150. I have placed the order for the 3 tune Troyer SCT. Can't wait to see how it does
