Question about XCAL2
Question about XCAL2
I have had my XCAL2 a month and a half or so. I love the 90 octane performance tune. With winter here and snow and ice soon to arrive, I am wondering if it will hurt my truck to jerk someone out of the ditch with the 90 octane perf. tune installed. It would only be a quick pull or jerk to get someone out of the ditch.
Can anyone elaborate on this?

A quick tug to get someone unstuck would be OK on a performance tune, as long as it doesn’t turn into a prolonged tow, which will elevate the EGT to an unsafe level and possibly cause engine damage.
*IF* it were only a "quick tug" to get someone out of a ditch, then that would probably be OK -
The problem is, in many cases I have seen, it's really not just a "quick tug" to pull a vehicle out of a ditch - especially if it's another truck, or it's in snow, ice, and/or mud. Many times it takes several attempts, and it's not uncommon at all for each such attempt to last significantly longer than just a "quick tug." For example, a few years ago, here in the winter in the mountains of Virginia, it took a small fire truck several attempts and prolonged load pulling to get a 4400 lb Explorer back on the road, and it wasn't even actually in the ditch - it was slightly off the pavement, in the middle of a bend that had a bit of snow & ice on the road, making conditions treacherous - it was our last Explorer, with me at the wheel. And in *that* kind of scenario, I would have wanted a towing tune to be used if it was another F-150 trying to pull me out that night. Of course, if a bozo (meaning me) hadn't been behind the wheel of that Explorer in the first place, it probably wouldn't have gotten stuck in the first place, but I screwed up - what can I say, it happened - much to my chagrin!
Sooo........I'd say use your discretion - if its literally just a quick tug, OK - if it's going to take some prolonged pulling, then load up a towing tune just to be safe.
In other words - good old common sense should apply to each individual situation - I'm sure you can work that out no problem.
Good luck!
