what to do first

hi i'm new to this
I have a 03 4x4 screw with a 4.6 as of now all stock nothing changed. I recently purchased a 28' tt that weighs 4900 lbs dry. I would like to put a chip in the truck and an AF1. But I can only do one at this time. I was told that I should put the AF1 in first because if I do it after the chip may not work properly. I though these things learned as you go.

The biggest bang for you're buck will be to call Mike Troyer for a custm tune. dollar for dollar this will make the differance. Later you can add the dodads, You will see no real differance in an air intake or exaust compared to custom tuning, believe me!!!! Depending on the charicteristics of you're stock tune ther can be huge power gains with tuning.

Personally, I am adding all the dodads first and doing the chip last. Troyer needs to know what he is tuning to do it optimally, and he spefically asks about them so he can properly tune your truck, so it seems to me, that would be the way to go. I have my tuner, but am not installing it because I am sitting here with underdrive pullies, throttle body, electric water pump, and gatorback belt waiting for my AF 1 so that I can install the tuner last.

thanks guys
I guess it's still split 50/50 as to what to do first. I am leaning to the chip and would like to do that this winter. I reread my first post it was a little vauge . part of my question should have been will this mod. make much of a difference in towing as this is what i am mostly interested in. my truck seems to pull my camper ok but struggles on hills. i beleave i am still under my weight limit and may be cutting it close fully loaded. am i going in the right direction to get more towing power?

Hi sawdustkid,

The tuning should be done *first* - not last. Why?

Simple! Because our custom tuning is the single best bang for the buck, as nothing else for the same or less cost will improve performance as much. Now understand, that does NOT mean that our tuning is going to turn an almost 3-ton 2003 4.6 SuperCrew into a "performance" machine, of course not - it simply means that it's the most cost-effective enhancement to performance, and to improving it's towing ability.

So you do the tuning first generally speaking, as you want to do your modifications in the basic order of best bang-for-the-buck - that way you spend the least amount to get your performance where you want it. The days of waiting to do the tuning until all other mods had been done went out years ago - that's the old days, before the technology was there to use customer flashers where you could email tuning changes, etc., like we can today.

The basic order of bang for the buck is to do the tuning, then the intake, and then the exhaust - and from there, it's on to things like our e-fans & underdrive pulleys, etc., just to give you a rough idea of the bang for the buck route, which is what we recommend.

So I'd say to do the tuning first, and to continue to do any further mods in the order of best bang for the buck, as that's the ticker to getting the most for your money, and spending the least amount to get your performance where you need it.

Please feel free to give us a call to go over any of this in more detail, & good luck with your truck & new trailer!
