Xcal 2 tuning?

Does anybody here have an xcal2 for his truck that was not tuned by "Mike" If so is it still as good as everyone says it is or does the magic come from Mikes tuning I just want to know more before I buy it. Please help. Thanx

Asking that question on F150[troyer]online.com will only yeild you with one response in most cases; troyer.

There are several great mail order tuners, and may i suggest RWTD, they recently changed over to xcal2 because diablo doesnt protect the tuner from stolen work.

I don't know if Troyer does the best custom tuning but he offers great customer service easy to reach with lots of hands-on experience, and spends lots of time here offering answers to questions. As you can see there are some people here who offer no real advice as to your options but love every oppurtunity they can get to blast Troyer. Call Troyer and decide for yourself....it's you he has to please not us

I am pleased with my Troyer tuned Xcal 2

TP has been specializing in tuning F150 for 14 years plus. Mike is the tune maestro

"They recently changed over". That in itself is enough information to tell me that I would buy from Mike as he has been tuning with SCT products longer than anyone else out there..Why would you buy from a rookie tuner??

In my opinion, the fact that he (Mike Troyer) has his customers datalog and then makes final adjustments, for each individual vehicle, to the tunes he builds says it all. Other Tuners take an off the shelf canned tune sell it to you and thier done. It is then up to you to find a dyno facility with a tuner (who may or may not know what he/she is doiong) and make adjustments for your vehicle. And customer service......................Unless your life is governed solely by price (and we've all been there) good or great customer service becomes the best value. That said I wish Mike ran every business that I deal with, Life would be GOOD!

well, i've heard on other threads that some people have had to modify troyer's tune to get the best results on the dyno. wouldn't it be easier/cheaper just to tune the truck without troyer's tune?

he gives a tune, you datalog and then he takes that info and fine tunes it.. you cant just tune every truck perfectly that easily especially the 04 and up f150's.. i did a lot of reading before i picked mike, and i cant wait to get mine.

just curious can you give a link to where someone modified a troyer tune that was finalized by mike and they still modified it to get better results?.. i havent read that anywhere on here.

From my understanding, a tune is protected and can not be modifyed or vewed by another tuner (person) without the origanal tuners permision, and I don't think there is much chance of that hapening. As is most things automotive you first need someone capapble of performing the task and just as important is if not more so is how much experiance they have. Any one can buy an SCT package that has a bunch of generic fits all but fits none, tunes in it from SCT, but then what do you change what works what gives performance and drivability and still has fuel economy, This is where the knoledge comes in this where experiance says this sounds like it will work but doesen't. I myself need to get Mike to make me a new tune because of the fact that I have added some upgrades that do need tuned for, and as soon as I feel Mike has caught up from Sema ans his tuning scedule I will contact him. The point I want to make is that I recently went back to the dyno that did my base info, they have some exotic Chevy work there but just became an SCT dealer and from my short interview they felt they were now a better Ford tuner than anyone in the world. Yes maybe they can make a great drag race tune but I drive my truck to work every day I just like performance, and Mike worked with me to make my truck shift and performe the way I want. Mike does not stop until you like the tune. Mike's base tune was great and the finished tune is impresive. I hate to change anything but the engine changes are going to force me to retune. I have the upmost confidence in what will come! Actualy I can't wait.

So, Mike Troyer does all the datalogging for free as part of buying the tuner from him? That's awesome! I was under the impression that the datalogging cost an extra $250 or $300. If the datalogging is included, then everybody should go with Troyer!

I don't think that is correct.
Customers supply the datlogging.
Mike writes your tunes, and then you datalog and send the results to him for any modifications he thinks he needs to make to enhance your original tunes, within 60 days of original tunes for no charge.
Seems like deal to me.
