hypertech has and always will be crap.
Hi BigBlue98,
Well, it's far more than just the hardware - the XCalibrator 2 is by far the most advanced hand-held tuner on the market, having features found nowhere else - from it's high-speed datalogging to easily updated firmware via Internet download, USB connectivity to your PCM, a software suite for datalogging not available with any other such tuner, and a modular design to take add-on options such as the large touch-screen that is coming out for it in a few moths for those who want a touch screen display on their dash, etc.
But the real reason that most people here use that product is because that is what *we* use to load our Troyer Performance custom tuning into, which is what delivers the best results in these vehicles. It;s the *tuning* that determines the results, not the hardware used to deliver that tuning to your vehicle's PCM.
People come to us because we have specialized in performance tuning the F-150 for 14 years - we are generally recognized as the go-to people for F-150 performance, as we have specialized in F-150 performance longer than just about anyone else and are known for our expertise in improving the performance of this platform.
Chipmakers like Hypertech, Jet, & all and others cannot do what we do - they have to be concerned with getting out hundreds (or even thousands in the case of a company like Superchips Inc., just for example) of different vehicle applications, so they cannot spend the kind of time on this one platform that we do, as the F-150 is our core specialty. Major chipmakers have called us in for help with their tuning products for these vehicles because we specialize in this platform.
The thing to focus on are the actual *results* seen from the tuning - power, actual performance improvement gains, and not just at wide-open throttle, but all the time, at any throttle position or rpm, whether you are drag racing, towing a heavy load, or just cruising around on the street, and overall driveability is key. So the key thing to remember is that it's the tuning *inside* that counts - not the hardware itself, in terms of how the vehicle actually runs. We just happen to use the XCalibrator 2 because its the best hardware on the market.
I hope this brief info helps a bit, & please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below for more detailed info on what we can do for your vehicle.
Thanks for your post, & good luck!
