pretty much the standard answers you'll get here, are Xcal2 chip custom tuned from troyer performance, Air Force 1 intake, and magnaflow exhaust.

Congrats on your new truck...as for those three mods...I'm pretty sure we can all agree here that the XCAL2 Custom Tuned by the Program GOD Mike Troyer, is hands down the best way to go in the chips category. As for intake....you can't go wrong with either the AirRaid Intake, or Air Force 1...."Per Mike". As for exhaust, the magnaflow exhaust has been the choice for all the members on this forum, so i would go with that. Other than that...good luck!!

Um, NOT. Magnaflow is NOT the choice of all member of this forum. It may be the choice of alot of members, but not even close to all. I run Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with custom 3 inch pipe on mine. Wouldn't install a magnaflow if it was given to me. As for the intake, I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to **** away the money that those air intake compaines charge for their products. Prior to my supercharger install, and on all my previious cars, I have purchased intake systems on ebay for less than $60. For the Navigator, I paid $35 + $15 S&H. $50 that gets the exact same thing as $200. As for a programmer, I have no experience with the xcal2 or TP so I can't tell you about them, but I used Diablosport for my tuning since they are a nationally known tuning company that started with fords, and deals mostly with fords.

A picture of the intake system I got

Thats a pretty nice set up. Going ny what your s/n is, I take it you have a 98 Navigator? You're trying to compare apples to oranges with the new 3v 5.4 Triton, compared to the one you have. With the newer engine, you can't just slap on any old intake and leave it at that, from what i've heard, air raid and air force 1 are one of the only two intakes that don't cause this particular engine to run too lean. As for mufflers, once again for this particular engine, MAGNAFLOW is the muffler of choice. I love flowmaster, and I'm sure it works great for your set up, but on the newer 5.4's, flowmaster has been said to take away from low end torque due to all of the baffles inside.

I'll plead ignorance to that. I can't debate something that I don't have any experience with, but I do have a customer with a 2002 F150 that I got one of those intakes for and he has been extremely happy with it. He was about to but one of the K&N intake systems which was like $260 and I got him one for $75. But again, I don't have one myself and can't vouch for what they do or don't do.

The Stage One kit might be want you’re looking for

Stage One Performance Package for the 2004 & newer Ford F-150 with 3-valve 300 HP 5.4 V8 engine

You get flexibility when you order this kit for instance which air intake you prefer, which custom tunes (three total) you prefer, etc.

Hi mizzou78,

In terms of what does the best job in those areas, our Stage 1 kit would be the way to go, as that gets you the combination of the best custom tuning with 3 different custom tunes in the most advanced tuning device on the market, the best intake kit and the best cat-back exhaust system. the Air Force One intake and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust system along with our custom tuning, in other words - each of which have clearly shown to deliver the best results in each of those 3 areas of modification. And not just in terms of peak hp, but also in terms of driveability and best part-throttle torque, which is really key for these heavy trucks, as well as the actual quality of materials.

There are quite a few F-150 Online members running our Stage 1 kit, and they love it.

Yes, there are cheaper parts, but when you buy cheap, you get cheap - you do *not* get the kind of results, R&D or the kind of performance results that our parts deliver.

This is what we do, specialize in F-150 platform performance for 14+ years, so we test every name-brand bolt-on part on the market for these vehicles, from every "name" intake kit & cat-back exhaust to superchargers, to you name it basically, so that we *know* which parts give the best results and are made of the highest quality materials - that's what our customers count on. So if you want the best in those three areas, tuning intake & exhaust, our Stage 1 kit delivers that all in one package.

If you'd like to go over this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, we'll be happy to help.

Congrats on that beautiful new 2006 F-150, & best of luck whatever you decide!

Now, I'm not gonna argue with the guy that runs this place, I won't even disagree with what he says, but for the price of that stage one kit I bought a used supercharger and installed it myself. For the price of that stage one kit plus $350 custom exhaust and $369 chip with custom tune, I have a 350 HP navigator. (and thats at the wheels) So, I spent $1969 total (granted I had some hookups in there from buddies who wanted nascar tickets and such) by buying things as I found them at a bargain. I never bought the highest dollar stuff, and I still can stomp on most of the cars around here and I'm totin 7200 pounds. A little patience and being in the right place at the right time can score a major deal and lots of performance for a minimal price. Good luck

You won't need TP or any performance aftermaket company then, just have Ford custom build it!

You said you got the F150 instead of the Diesel.

Did you consider the PowerStroke for towing ability?

If so.. you WONT get that out of your gas engine... You can turbo/Super charge the heck out of it, it aint gonna be a diesel.

When discussing intakes and exhaust, your really only utilizing their full potential at wide open throttle (WOT). How much driving do you plan on doing at WOT?

Yes, you will get a small gain in HP and TQ in the lower, usable RPM range with an intake and exhaust.. but not much.

Tuners are, in my opinion, the best starter mod to do.. There are drawbacks to the tuner though. Yonly see full benifit of the tuner if you use Premium octane fuel.
You can get a used SuperChips tuner of Diablo sport tuner for fairly cheap.. just browse through the classifieds. Or you could get a custom tune via a X-Calibrator.. Troyer Performance sells them...

If your looking into modding your F150 to make it close to the performance of a Diesel... dont. It will never happen.

If you still insist on trying, Go ahead and get the stage one package from Troyer performance, then get yourself some gears (4.10 or 4.56). That will help apply that power to the ground.

Good Luck And Congrats on the new King Ranch!

Nope not trying to match the pulling or power of the diesel. We just dont pull anything anymore now that we dont farm like we used to. Used to pull a 12-15 head of cows in a gooseneck, or almost anything of size on a 25ft Flatbed trailer. Now all we have is a 79 ebco speed boat, and a little bumper pull trailer. ITs gonna be wierd, we've had diesels since I can remember, but just no need to spend the extra cash right now. Thanks for all the ideas!

A supercharger will definitely gain you more power, but I don't anyone that just bought a brand new KR is browsing e-bay for cheap used parts. Some of us just aren't willing to take the chance of buying some unwarranted parts and installing them on our brand new trucks.

I have the Troyer Stage 1 kit on my truck and it took it from running high 16s in the 1/4 to mid 15s. Definitely worth the cash.

The topic of this thread, let us remember, and what the vehicle owner asked was which are the best parts to use on those 3 areas - and I agree completely with "hwm3," nobody with a brain is going to throw the cheapest used parts they can find on a brand new $50K King Ranch F-150.

Now I'm happy that 98Navi is happy with what he has done to his vehicle - for someone that has an 8 year old vehicle with much less worth and can get help from others in ways like that and are willing to use the cheapest used parts they can find, and don't care about any kind of protection, warranty, or the support that people get from experts like us - more power to you! But that has absolutely nothing to do with what the proud owner of that beautiful brand new $50K King Ranch actually asked.

For hwm3 - Just FYI, there is more performance to be had from your Stage 1 kit, and specifically, by us finalizing your custom tuning. If you will get us the datalogging info, we can further improve your performance gain. I mention this because we have just completed a new set of datalogging docs that make it a lot easier for owners of the XCalibrator 2 (and I'm just assuming that is what you have, as I don't know from your screen name here when you got your Stage 1 kit and thus which version of tuner you have) to get us the info we need, specifically with regard to the A/F ratios, etc., to maximize the results of your Stage 1 package. If you would like to give us a call or shoot us an email when you get a chance (and email will obviously take significantly longer with our email load), we'll be happy to email you those new datalogging docs that will enable you to get the info we need to tweak your custom tuning much easier - your performance will improve even more once our custom tuning is finalized with that info. This is just FYI so you'll know, & thanks for your post!

Last - and most important - we wish the best of luck to the owner of that new 2006 King Ranch - that is a beautiful top-of-the-line vehicle that many would be proud to own, and we wish you the best of luck whatever you decide to do with it!
