Post-install ?? on my AF1

First... i did get the dreaded check engine light. instructions said to disconnect the battery which i did this morning when i installed and it ended up coming back on.. i read a post by M.T. and he stated NOT to do that.. the instructions said this could have to be done several times with newer vehicles.. so which is it? disconnect more or not at all?

now i've read on here it takes several driving cycles (im guessing this means cold starts and a cruise around town) and the light will go off.. so whats the average cycles that im looking for here? because i wont sleep well untill that light is off and stays off.

thanks for the

last question.. (might come out to be a stupid one) i had this large stripe of foam left over after the install after reading back through the instructions it mentions putting *dont recall the term they used* in the hole around were the tube goes through.. is that what this is for? the instructions in my opinion werent the clearest on this.

thanks for the
I recall Mike saying that the threshold for the "DREADED LIGHT " on the stock 04-05 tune was set too low(The code showing a lean condition). If you are not running a TP tune then you may well be dealing with that. Call them, that is the best bet!

According to MT the 2004 threshhold for a lean condition was set low from the factory and was corrected for 05 models. You should be ok....I would check with Mike though!

Hi again rawson;

Don't keep disconnecting the battery. (You sure the instructions say that - seems contradictory).

Best bet is to keep looking for someplace that has a compatible OBDII device ( as indicated in that other post ), and keep clearing those codes.

Not sure if drive cycles will clear this - I believe some codes 'latch' and require manual clearing .... If I find anything I'll let you know.

Good luck & sleep tight - y'know this isn't a 'real' problem - I'm assuming no leaks here.

Cheers!
Happy Canuck turkey day!

The *Tech Notes* in the AF1 install instructions does have a procedure for resetting the PCM by disconnecting the negative [-] battery terminal. If you do the [-] disconnect to reset the PCM do it on a cold engine and follow the other recommended procedure of letting it idle until it reaches operating temperature.

Clearing the code with an OBDII device would be a lot easier though. You need to find someone in your area with an XCal2 that is willing to help you out

well.. this morning i went out and re-inspected my intake and noticed my breather hose wasnt all the way on... GARRRR... well i pushed it all the way and it clicked again.. i also took this strip of foam they gave me and put it around the tube were it goes into the box, in hopes to keep more hot air out.. well i did disconnect the battery again and restarted and let it sit and idle for about 15 minutes which i dont think i let it idle long enough last time.. took it for a trip and no light like yesterday... not only no light yet, but the response was MUCH better.. the sound was quieter.
the test will be the 60 mile trip to work and back here in about a half hour.

i'll keep ya updated
