Thanks once again Mike
I recieved my recalibrated xcal from ups yesterday afternoon.Installed the race program as usual its a great tune as usual. I just wanted to thank you for takin care of my no so smart move of erasing the tunes out of my xcal. I now know for sure that your tuning makes this truck scream because while the stock tune was back in , it felt like I was slow as can be. Got one question for ya though? I know next time I want to change a tune to make sure and give you a call beforehand but is the tuner locked once again. I guess I didnt have a good understanding of the tunes and xtreme tune software as I thought. I didnt know that you had to release the tunes to me by email before I can adjust for tire size like I was tryin to do. The next time I need to update will I be able to do that myself once you send me the emailed tunes or will I have to send it back to you again. Sorry this has been a long writeup but I wanted to thank you for your once again great customer service.

Hi Mickey,
The way for our customers to have their own adjustability in that regard is to be using the XCalibrator 2, where we can enable it's **on-board** adjustment capability, which I then control what can and cannot be done, and by how much. We do not release xtr files other than in an emergency that we can address via email - which yours was not, of course, that unit had to come here.
We simply aren't going to allow a scenario in which we potentially get a black eye because someone owning a 9100 or 9300 did something in Extreme Tune they had no business doing, and blew up an engine or filled an automatic tranny, because we sent them their xtr files.
We implemented this policy after 2 people here swore they only wanted to do tire size changes, and then came back here stupidly bragging about how they were screwing with engine timing, fueling, etc. They both deliberately lied to get me to release those xtr's to them - so we don't do that for anyone anymore.
Now here's the good news - SCT is working on a utility that will allow us to email tuning changes out to XCal 1 owners just like we can for those who have the original 9100 - the custom Micro Tuner for the EEC-V PCM's - where they can get it sent to them via email & load those new tunes into their XCalibrator 1's and not have to send them in. As soon as we have that, then we'll implement that so everyone can conveniently get changes via email as they should always have been able to. Frankly, SCT dropped the ball on that IMHO - from Day 1, they had software we could use to do that for 9100 owners, but they never did that for the 9300 owners - they just went ahead and released Extreme Tune, which has been problematic, gone thru numerous revisions, etc., and most importantly, allows them to make changes that can hurt the powertrain if someone who doesn't know what they are doing, or who just does something stupid (like "more is better") gets hold of their xtr files.
This scenario is one of many reasons why we encouraged people with XCal 1's to take advantage of SCT's month-long program during August to allow owners of the XCal 1's to upgrade to the XCal 2's at a low cost.
So - for today, if you want tuning changes made to a 9300 (XCalibrator 1), you'll need to send the unit in to us. Those with 9100's we can email those changes to them, and those with 9400's (the XCal 2) get that on-board adjustability enabled from us, as we can limit them from being able to add timing or remove any fuel, how far they can take their shift points & rev limiters, etc., so they can't do something dumb and kill the powertrain - especially in a supercharged application, like where they have added a blower to their truck, or they try to add even more timing in on top of how we tune the Lightnings, Harleys & Cobras, etc., for example. Now of course I know you wouldn't do anything dumb, but unfortunately, we have to enact policies across the board, you know how that goes.
It won't be long before we'll have that email utility where we can simply send out changes for you via email so you don't need to send the unit in, and then it becomes a non-issue.
Thanks for your understanding on this, & thanks for your post, too!

Hi Mike,
You just said a few things in your response that caught my eye. BTW I installed the 91 perf. tune from my Xcal2 yesterday and it seems like the best one yet.
Anyway, would our Xcal2 be "unlocked" to make those minor changes or would we have to send it in to get it unlocked?
Thanks for the EXCELLENT!!! tune.

I fully understang where u coming from Mike and dont blame ya a bit. I was just curious and now I know. I know I have business tryin to change any other parameters within my tune, thats why I like to enlist your wonderful services. Thanks for clearing it up for me. The reason I asked was because I was just looking ahead to the first of the year when I plan on adding some more boost and would have to have the L retuned. By then Im sure the update will be availible and by then I might even change my mind and get an xcal2 with all the goodies so I can datalog also. Thanks once again MIke for takin car of me.

Hi Mickey,
Yeah, if you can get into the XCal 2 that would be the hot tip from the standpoint of it's datalogging, complete diagnostic and so many other enhanced capabilities. Otherwise, the XCal 1 will continue to do the job, it just doesn't have all the XCal 2's frills, that's all.
When you decide to raise boost, the truck will need to be completely re-tuned, as you already know. There's a lot of difference in what we do for a stock boost L versus a raised-boost L. What would be really cool is to up the boost and have us port the blower & plenum, so you really get some big bang from it and pick up increased intercooler efficiency, and can also spin the blower even harder, etc.
I'm a big fan of the ported blower, plenum, Accufab TB and a 6 PSI pulley combo, myself - that is a very nice & predictable combo that many of our Lightning owners are using to get down into the low 12's and even into the 11's, with a prepped track & suspension and decent weather. That's what I run, along with every other bolt-on kn own to man, of course, and under ideal conditions my truck is capable of 11.20's. I wish I had the time to really focus on that truck, as I do believe with some lightening (I run at full weight) and a few other tricks, we could get a stock-block Eaton-powered Lightning into the 10's (even if it's just a 10.99) - in good weather, of course. We're a tad over 2 tenths away from that, but those are the hardest 2 tenths+ to get!!!
Have fun,

HEY, maybe you need another driver in that silver flash ....
I know someone looking for something to do.....
Thats a good idea Mike, I have thought about a port job for the eaton as an option. I would love to see a eaton in the 10s as Frank5L put a stock longblock L in the 10s with a 10.99 at Lfest with a T76 turbo on it.
Trending Topics
Converting to a big T76 turbo makes that a lot easier - that turbo can make a lot more power, and you don't have the HP required to turn the supercharger as additional load on the motor, either.
Of course, don't get me wrong - I don't mean to denigrate his accomplishment, by any means. Anytime a stock long block L gets into the 10's there's big-time reason to be proud of such an accomplishment!!
