XCAL 2 Installed & Unbelievable
Well had a full tank of 87, so I loaded the 87 perf. tune, right away I notice a HUGE difference. Much more power off the line, easily breaks the tires loose, I'll have to watch that, firm shift into second even thought I heard a chirp. This is all with the 87, can't wait for the 91 perf. tune. Onother great thing is my idle, where it use to be low and rough its now up around 700 RPM's and very smooth, this has been bugging me since I bought the truck. Oh yeh, even though I have ARCO gas in it, which is a cheaper gas here in SoCal, NO pinging! I can't be happier with the results!
THANKS Mike & Anita this thing rocks

Welcome to the club!
MPH,
I see your as happy as I am with your Troyer Tunes. Now see what you can do to stay away from ARCO gas. Its the pits. My town has two ARCO stations and I have gotten some real crap from them. Sure they are cheaper than the others but you get what you pay for. Here in California about the best you can get is 76 gas. Next down the list is Shell and Standard.
I am leaving on a vacation towing trip up to Washington state over this weekend and will be placing my tunes down from my 91 performance tune to my 87 tow perf tune. That way I will be paying a tiny bit less and can probably put up with about anything I can find on the road.
Spinning your tires in any one of your tunes is really not an issue. Its an issue for having lost mileage on the tread.

As far as the ARCO gas, thats more difficult because my boss pays for my gas wit a company ARCO credit card. I will be running the next tank on Shell 91 to check out the 91 perf. tune though.
Not a bad deal!
Well in that case burn it up!
The gas that is.....
I drive a company vehicle and use the comapny gas pumps unless I am away from my area then I buy whatever is handy for it with a company gas card. So I don't have to drive my own 25 miles each way to the office and on to the jobs.
I await my weekends with anticipation just to be able to run around in my F-150.

I have no problem getting some rubber of the line even with the 87 performance tune. 93 perf, can't wiat to try it. I suspect also that the towing tunes are not desgined for perfance. I love the XCAL2, fabulous...... See my sig, I have the FX4 screw...

All I can express is my real world experence with their product. I have had engine pinging when I used their product in my 2004 F-150. Even my wifes Honda Accord will ping on their 91 octane fuel. I don't know where they refine here or what they put into the gas either. I tried over five different ARCO stations from where I live to where I work and they all had the same effect. So I don't buy fuel that my engine has a problem with. Sure, I'd like to pay a little bit less for fuel but not at the expense of my engine.
I have not had that kind of problems with the others here. Now some folks tell me that all the stations, no matter what brand in this area, take their fuel at a common point locally. Don't know if thats true either. If so then why don't the others ping under full throttle?
Now if your having a good experence with ARCO then good for you. I didn't!
So "yeh right" yourself!
Hi MAXXIS2001SCREW,
You're making some really big mistakes here in trying to compare your truck to these other newer & much more powerful trucks, so I just wanted to drop by to help you out by pointing out a few of the obvious factors & you'll quickly see why your truck isn't going to run like theirs.............
But first - if you read your documentation from us that all of our custom tuning customers receive, it tells you in great detail NOT to attempt to judge performance by the seat of the pants - that is the absolute worst way to attempt to judge ANY performance modification, especially in a 2.5-3 ton truck. We go over in great detail exactly how to make appropriate & accurate before & after comparisons in those docs.
You do not have anywhere near the kind of power that all of these other newer trucks in this thread talking about spinning their tires have - remember, yours is a 2001 truck that has about 50 HP less than what the 5.4 3-valve 2004 & newer trucks that everyone else posting about burning the tires in this thread with our custom tuning have - so you simply cannot compare. They start off with 300 HP, you started off with 260 HP - 5 years ago. So you were 40 HP down to start off with in stock trim 5 years ago, and even assuming absolute perfection and still making 260 Hp stock (which is usually not the case 5 years later without some very thorough maintenance including replacing all the coil packs, spark plugs, upstream O2 sensors, thorough fuel injector & EGR tract cleaning, & numerous other things), you still end up about 50 HP short of what they make comparing your truck in perfect as-new condition with our custom tuning to the new 5.4 3-valve trucks with our tuning - so you simply cannot compare with them, my friend.
And without datalogging as is thoroughly described in our custom tuning documentation as well, there is nothing to look at - we have to have actual data, not seat of the pants guesswork comparing your truck to those with much power power in stock trim.
Overall - I would suggest going back and re-reading your docs, and not trying to compare your truck to these newer trucks that have at least 40-50 more horsepower than what your truck has - focus on doing proper before & after comparisons as we describe in our custom tuning documentation, as well as all the maintenance & datalogging - that is the only way that truck will be in top condition and you can compare the performance appropriately with our custom tuning.
I hope that helps your understanding of this a bit better, as I know it can be confusing when you see what others with newer trucks talk about here - but you do not have the newer truck that they have, that is one of the most important factors - your truck makes a lot less HP and especially low rpm torque off the line, stock or tuned, compared to any 2004 or newer F-150.
If you decide to do the datalogging as we describe in our custom tuning documentation, we'll be more than happy to look at that data for you, & best of luck with your truck!

so, just wondering here guys, since we are on the topic of turnin over the tires, how much rubber can you actually leave, just punchin it at a stop light, (feet wise?) Also, im going to get some mickeythompson 33 13.50 on in the next couple of months, would i be able to turn those over, or is that a little hard fetched for the 87 perform tune

If your interested in low end power so you can spin your tires - try lower gears.
The huge tires you guys want will effectively raise your gearing ( lower # ), and make your trucks slower off the line.
I switched to 410's from stock 355's, and it is like night and day off the line, and helps overall drivability. With my modest power output I can smoke em pretty good.

I have an ext. cab 4x4 with 3:55's and 33x12.5R17 all terrains on 9" wide wheels and I can BAKE em from a dead stop in forward or reverse until I run out of 1st. gear. 5-speed.
I just let it out at about 1,500 rpm's max. Oh yeah, no limited slip. She'll get sideways pretty quick around any corner / turn from a roll. I love my mini-monster truck.
