End User Adjustability???
End User Adjustability???
Hey Mike, when SCT drops Advantage 3.0 and the new firmware to support it, will you be offering the ability for end user adjustments in your tunes? I'm interested in things like, gear changes, tire size changes, idle speed, etc. If so, what would be involved? I'm under the impression that you would have to recreate the existing tunes with the Advantage 3.0 software. I don't know if you can simply export the old tunes and convert them, or if it would require starting all over again with the data sheets. I know you can't drop it here, but do you have a price / timeline set on getting existing users up to speed so to speak? I would assume you could email the updated XTR's or whatever format they are in for upload to the unit which would overwrite the old tunes? Thanks man!!!
Hello Jackal,
We were the first people to have Mako (Advantage 3.0) - actually, there were a group of about 8-10 of us who got it months ago - at which point we started our R&D and testing, and s of roughly a few weeks ago, we feel it is now usable for tuning the applications that we specialize in and do a proper job with it, and enable those types of features properly, etc.
So yes, if you want the ability to do the things you mentioned, we can set that up for you - just give us a call at our number listed below & our staff can quote you the fee for the new tuning & reprocessing of an existing XCalibrator 2 that is required to enable that for you.
Oh, and by the way - you will NOT be able to make changes such as add
more spark advance in - or lean fuel out - or raise the rev limiter higher - or anything else that will have the potential for damaging the engine - that we do NOT allow.

like what good is end user adjustability if you can't add just a couple more degrees of spark or lean it out a few %, its an NA motor so you aren't going to hurt it...plus the guy already paid u a chunk of change for the product already and now u want to charge him again for a upgrade that was advertised...do you tell your customers that when they buy the Xcal2?
I just emailed Anita for a quote. I assume that means I have to send the unit in? No way to do it through the USB? Would I also have to detune the truck again or is that not needed since the Xcal2 is vin locked all the time? Do new Xcal2 buyers get this adjustability or is it an add-on package? Thanks again.
Raider,
You're certainly living up to your foul-mouthed emailed threats to destroy us - if you had half a brain, you'd know that allowing owners who know very little about tuning to dump in more spark on a supercharged engine (of which we tune many) is a quick recipe to a blown engine - but then, I'm not surprised after seeing your posts over at SCT wondering why your spark is retarding so badly off the line, barely able to get into the 14's in a 12 PSI supercharged truck (I saved them just for laughs), etc. It's really very simple, I'm surprised you weren't able to cure that with your SCT Racer Pro package -
You don't have the first clue who we tune, who has what among our customers, or anything else - nor is it any of your business. So I suggest that you mind your own business, son, as just one more email threat like your last one will not be looked on kindly by our attorneys, who already have your last couple, and all of your posts attacking us and sticking your nose in *our* business.
I do hope you keep it up.

Jackal,
We have gone over all of that with you over the phone by now I think -
Yes, you do have to send the unit in, as it was not originally programmed with Mako, so we have to make some changes to your existing tunes to bring them into Mako cleanly, so we can then enable those features for you, which we are happy to do.
On your email about that dyno facility - I don't know anything about them, that email doesn't tell me anything that would help us, but as long as they can do proper dyno pulls (and it looks like that shouldn't be a problem from what I can tell from the info you sent) & your follow our datalogging instructions that came with your CPW's and do both the no-load and the load datalogging as we described, and then enter that data into our spreadsheet template and send it to us properly, that should all work out just fine!
Give us a call before you do your datalogging session if you want to go over any of the details, etc.
Talk to you soon!

Hi Red Wing Nut,
the XCal 2 has that ability how - the only requirement is that we need to do the tunes in Mako (Advantage 3.0), which is a brand new release from the manufacturer, so that we cna enable those features in the XCal 2 for you.
For example, anyone who has purchased an XCal 2 from us in the past week or so (roughly) already has that enabled - we spent some time testing & doing R&D before we actually started releasing tunes with Mako as there were some problems that had to be fixed - so we just started doing the tunes in Mako recently, and everyone who got tuned since then has those features enabled already.
Those who purchased the XCalibrator 2 from us before that time frame will need to call us to make arrangements to send in their XCal 2 for us to convert their tunes and then enable those features.
So the bottom line is yes, we can make that happen NOW!

Hey Mike, Ryan at SCT had this to say:
"we are working on a utility that will allow your dealer to send you a file to upload to the device with options. This is still in the works, and is not available currently."
Apparently this utility would enable us to get the adjustability without having to detune and send the unit in. Do you see a problem with this?

That's no problem, I just want to make sure Mike has what he needs to email the files out so we can use this utility rather than sending the unit back in. When I chose / purchased the Xcal2, and this has nothing to do with TP, I hadn't planned on having to ever send the unit out for anything. The whole point in the Xcal2 is end user adjustability and self upgradeability.
