LOcation of computer in 97 F250 h/d

Does anyone know definitly were the computer is in a 97 F250 H/D. I am trying to order a chip and they need a number off the computer. They gave me a few places to look but I have a real bad back and don't feel like ripping apart the whole interior looking for it.

Hi Mark,

Actually, those who know can give you better help - in the SuperDuty of that year, it will be located under the hood, underneath brake master cylinder - it will be mounted so that most of it is inside the cabin, but you will see that the first inch or so protrudes thru an opening in the firewall so that the wiring harness connector cna attach tot eh front of the PCM.

As for finding the code sticker, that's pretty easy - just open the driver's side door and look in the front part of the door frame, in the general area of the door hinges - there you should find the sticker with 3 letters followed by 1 number.

Now sometimes you can find that sticker on the PCM itself under the hood, without having to remove the PCM. But you cna ALWAYS find the code sticker by simply disconnecting the PCM's wiring harness (it has a 10mm bolt dead-center), loosen that bolt until the harness can be detached ( the bolt remains an integral part of the harness, don't' try to remove the bolt). Then slide the PCM out thru the engine compartment, and you will find a large code sticker right on top of it.

If you have a bad back, you need to let someone else do this for you, as I cna guarantee you will be going thru some twisting & contorting in that model year of SuperDuty to get to it, and especially to get the PCM out and back in again.

If you need more help, just give us a call at our number listed below, & good luck!

HI Mark,

Yes, absolutely - thanks to *everyone* for their responses.

However, the code you found is not the right code - the code we need till have a format of 3 letters followed by 1 number - not 4 letters. SO you need to go back and take another look. The kind of format you are looking for will be something like NVK4, TLD2, etc - you see what I mean, 3 letters followed by 1 number.

Now if you have any problem at all finding that code, just give us a call & we'll walk you thru that over the phone.

there are some of these vehicles where the code sticker was never really properly placed at the factory on the assembly line, and so we have to remove the PCM from the vehicle to get the code which will ALWAYS be on a big sticker on TOP of the PCM - but of course, the way it's mounted, the TOP is actually one of the sides usually, so you have to pull the PCM out (after disconnecting it's harness) to get that info.

One way or the other, we'll help you find that code, don't worry!

Chip code

Mike the code I gave you was 1 # and 3 letters. The first "0" was a zero not a "o". Does that help you at all? Or does that number have to be at the end.
I did try calling your office and that told me it was in the kick panels. With my back I think I may just call it quits for now. Not by choice but this is just getting a little frustrating. If some one can tell me where it was definitly I would give a try but I just feel like we are spinning our wheels. I can't keep asking my brother in law to come over and looking for the needle in the hay stack. Thank you all very much for everyones help. Have funn and be safe.

If you look at the link above that is exactly the same tag in the pictures
as I gave you. I am realy confused why the number I gave was not correct.
"0TLA" Remember the 0 is a zero not an o. I realy want to do business with you but am very confused.

Ummm -

That link shows "U4P0" (U4P-Zero).

Yours says "0TLA"....

I thought it was always 3 characters followed by a number - yours is the opposite.

You found this on the PCM in the same location as that link shows?

Thumbs up Code location

Raider

You are the man. While you were loooking it up I was out looking at the number again and reilized that I was using a mirror to see the number. I was just about to send an email saying the mistory has been resolved. The number is indeed ALT0(Zero). But you beat me to it. Thank you very much for your efforts. I hope this is all mike's people need to order my chip.

Thanks Again
Mark

No, people cannot get you the tear-tag code from just the VIN# - that is largely a myth these days. What most people fail to realize is that the exact same vehicle/VIN can potentially have over 100 different tear-tag codes in gas-engine F-series.

ALT0 is a valid code, it is of course an older speed-density vehicle rather than a modern mass-air vehicle - and yes, we can certainly tune it.

well Mike you are WRONG

I DID get the code by the vin and Mark has proved it...Dont try and tell me that Im wrong because I helped the guy before you did...with the vin# u can get the claibration of the car and then get the pcm code from that...I have done this many of times and it has been dead on each time...the resources that I have are pretty damn good so its not a myth
