Xcal2 ?
Xcal2 ?
Hey Guys
I'm about to buy a tuner. I have ruled out the 1714 and the Hypertech. I am down to the Xcal2 and the Diablo Predator. Before anyone gets crazy I'd like to say I'm probably not buying from Mike. Nothing against Mike. From all the threads I've read he seems to have made you all very happy. I'm not looking to race, just get better perfomance when towing and daily driving. I didn't hit the powerball last night so cost is an issue.
What I need to know is how does the Xcal2 (pre-loaded, straight out of the box) compare to the Diablo Sport Predator ? Im on 87 octane for 70 miles round trip daily driving. Aready have K&N Intake.
Also, can Mike load his tunes at a later date if I go with the Xcal2 ? Maybe I'll hit the next powerball.

You are making a BIG mistake even attempting to put a generic tune on your truck.. Save up a few more $$ and get the best from Mike and his staff..They have been tuning these trucks longer than anyone....
The 1714 are exclusively for 2004; can’t use it on a 2001.
The little bit you might save going with another company other than Troyer Performance will be negligible seeing how f150online members get a special discount that is not reflected in the price on their web sight.
Cutting corners on a performance mod is a big mistake IMO that will be regretted long after the price is forgotten

jpdadeo is right man, not that were kissing **** or anything but from personal experience its well worth it, and again you do get a discount so I would call and talk to them before do anything rash.
A good friend of mine has a shop and swears by the preadator and says anyone who promises anything over 10 hp is bs.
I am really glad I didnt listen to him, I am not sure exactly how much hp I got but its definetly the single most best mod I have ever done out of all my cars, for the buck of course.

If you want to settle for less because it's cheaper....buy the Predator. You can re-sell it later since it's not locked to the PCM code like the Xcal, and buy an Xcal 2 from Troyer when you decide you want the best.
Your going to regret it....good luck.

I vote with the majority here..... I have a generic Edge 3 stage programmer, $ 300 online. I also have an xc2 on order, and plan to pass on the Edge to my cheap bro in law for whatever I can get.
With the xc2 you get more than the programs, it's upgradable by a very reputable company with your input...... way too cool........

Hello Coffman,
A couple of points....
1.) As you can see from the responses here, we've been performance-tuning F-150's longer than anyone else, and our results show it - and not just among the 20% of those who actually take their vehicles to a drag strip once in awhile, I mean them *and* the other 80% who are normal daily drivers just like you. This is what we specialize in and a lot of people have made the mistake of going elsewhere -0 they almost always end up coming to us anyway in the end and then rave about the difference. Only by then, they've ended up paying a LOT more total, and that's the *real* mistake for anyone who actually cares about cost. So if you want to do ANY type of modification, save your pennies until you can afford to go with the best - anything else is a mistake - period - and a waste of money that you will regret later. It's just that simple.
2.) As you can also see from other responses here, what it costs you is a lot less than you think - give us a call as you are a registered member here, and get a much lower price that is NOT reflected on our web site - you'll want to know about that, and the only way to know that cost is to call us.
No matter what you do, with ANY performance modification - NEVER shop based primarily on price, as the only thing that assures ONE thing - that you get the worst. Save yourself the hassle in *every* area of modification, and only use the best - no matter what you do, whether it's tuning, intake, a towing hitch, or whatever - save your money until you can afford the best - not only does it cost less than you think, but it always costs less in the end, too.
There's a reason why our customer's vehicles run quicker and faster than everyone else's with the exact same types of mods - and have better driveability, get better MPG results, better towing ability, are more enjoyable to drive, etc. The number of our customers who have us tune their vehicles to "race" is far less than the number of every day daily drivers just like you. Never think it doesn't matter because you aren't going to "race" - it matters in *every* type of driving.
If you are looking for "cheap" tuning give us a call and you'll get your F-150 Online registered member additional discount on the "standard" Superchips type of Micro Tuner for your vehicle - it'll do a better job than any other of-the shelf product. But if you want the best, as well as a product with the future built in (the only really smart thing to do), then stop and think about this before taking the plunge. I strongly advise you to go with our custom tuning loaded into the XCalibrator 2, so that you have the best hardware on the market with the future built in, and the best tuning. Buying it from somebody else now and then having us do *our* tuning later is not only going to cause you to have significantly reduced results now in every aspect of driving now, but also cost you far more total. It doesn't matter that you will have more money later, if you actually care about cost at all, what actually matters is the final cost - period.
I wish you the best of luck whatever you decide.
