Xcal2 question for Mike T.

Someone else on these boards has brought to my attention the fact that another Superchips dealer sells Xcal2's that allow you to change tire size, axle ratio, shift points etc. yourself. I checked out their website and it says "A Multi-Program Flash Device, the new SCT XCalibrator 2 will allow you to flash your 1996 and newer Ford vehicle with up to 3 Custom Calibrations, and also allow you to tweak your Custom Calibration using SCT's Xtreme Tuning Software."
Do the Xcal2's you sell have this capability? Will they in the future? I would love to have the Troyer custom programs with the ability to change tire size and such myself.

Just found this on SCT's website, "User adjustability will be released in an upcoming firmware update".
So what's the skinny on this? This is what I want and I will buy it as soon as you have it.

All Xcal2's are the SAME. It is just a piece of hardware, seems a lot of people don't get that it is JUST HARDWARE.
If one Xcal2 lets you do something the other Xcal2 will let you do it too. Right now from reading the site, SCT has not released the update that will allow a Xcal2 to change the tunes. Since they have not released it NO ONE is selling an Xcal2 that you can use to change anything (read their site all user adjustibility is coming later)

The extreme tuning software is actually a program that sits on your computer. You can modify the tunes using it and push them back to your Xcal2. I've had to use it to put new tunes from Mike into my XCal.

Now if you want to go and spend $400 or so and then go and F'up your tunes, changing shift points etc, because you think you know better then a professional tuner, then feel free.

As for me if I change tire sizes (which is doubtful), I'll call Mike and have him zap me my tunes again with the tires changed.
Since it's not like you change tire sizes very often, so it's not a big deal.

Doesn't matter who it is. If what I'm asking for is available or will be available in the near future, I would like to know. If you noticed, I didn't mention any names and I also said I would buy it from Mike as soon as he had it.

I spent almost that much on a 1714 that ALLOWS me to change a few parameters. It must be OK to do because they put it in there. I'm not asking to be able to change anything and everything, just the few things that are available on the 1714 so chill out.

As for tire size changes. I've already put bigger tires on and the 1714 let me adjust for that. If I put bigger ones on in the future, I would rather just punch it in myself than have to get new tunes made.

From everything I’ve read on the subject, by doing a search, you don’t get new tunes made for tire-size change.

Call Troyer if you need more info than that.

Hi Red Wing Nut,

Basically, the posts you have been reading in this thread are correct - you will be able to make some adjustments like tires size & gear ratio changes in a future firmware upgrade on that unit.

There will also be a software application in the future that. once it works right, we will be able to allow you to use to make some changes because we will be able to control exactly what can and cannot be changed, and by exactly how much - when that time comes, we will announce it here (so don't ask when, we don't know - when it's ready and actually working correctly we'll shout it out here for everyone)

Last - for those who think they actually have real tuning knowledge AND the detailed control knowledge of these vehicle systems (and trust me, that leaves out 99% of even those who are convinced they "know "tuning"), there is high-end package available right now, called the Racer Pro Package . It was designed and always intended for the **professional racer** who already possessed detailed tuning and vehicle control systems & components knowledge and simply needed the tools to do it - so it is NOT something we will sell to anyone who we feel does not already have strong knowledge - but if you think you're ready for that, call us & we'll be happy to set you up with it, as we want those who do possess such knowledge to be able to do what they need to do with their race car. It will allow you to tune (1) ONE vehicle only - from scratch. It will NOT allow you to tune multiple vehicles, and it's not a toy, or anything to be played with by the average vehicle owner - it's for the owner who needs to tune his race car/heavily modified street machine and make many ongoing adjustments to make the vehicle suitable for changing track conditions, etc. (and no, I don't mean just a truck with a lot of exterior bolt on mods, that means built motors, cams, ported heads, superchargers, turbochargers, etc., serious stuff) , and can be made to allow the owner to tune any *one* FoMoCo vehicle.

That is what is currently available - any questions, give us a call.
