The XCAL is a tuner with custom programs tailored to an indiviual vehicle.
The Micro Max is a generic tuner that can be used on any vehicle.
I believe that's it in a nutshell. Anyone feel free to correct me if that is not the case.

same question
So the "MAX" is tailored for the 2005 F150 where the other is for all Ford vehicels. Is this the only difference? Do I get the same tunes for my '05 F150 with either product? Does one have any capabilities that the other doesn't?

There's a HUGE difference!! 
The first unit, the XCalibrator 2, is what we use to load our Troyer Performance CUSTOM tuning into - that is the tuning that gets you by far the best power & performance gains, the best driveability, fuel mileage, etc., to say nothing of it's killer features - like real-time datalogging, full diagnostic capabilities, USB connectivity, Internet-firmware update capability, a completely modular design so you can add things like our large touch-screen coming out later this year as a separate option that can be added on to any XCalibrator 2, etc. In other words, this is by far the best product.
The other unit is the "MAX" series of Superchips Inc's Micro Tuners, and they do not contain our Troyer Performance custom tuning (well, we did have a hand in some of that, but you do not get the benefit of our in-depth custom tuning). Now those "MAX" series Micro Tuners are indeed the best available "standard" tuning type of product - so if you do not care about getting the best results or all those amazing features of the XCalibrator, you can go that route and get a decent result I'm sure you will enjoy. But it does not compare in either power gains, performance improvement, or the sheer number of many features that the XCalibrator 2 has when loaded with our Troyer Performance custom tuning.
The XCalibrator 2 also has a much faster processor in it, so it can flash the PCM much quicker, is designed to have many additional new features added to it over time via a simple file download and USB cable (which we included with it), etc. As I guess you can probably tell by now, we are just absolutely enamored of the XCalibrator 2, as there is simply nothing else on the market that has it's capabilities, to say nothing of the fact that this is the device that allows us to load our own custom tuning in, and thus get you a much better performance, power & driveability result.
