Code help
I have the X-cal2 and i was running the performance 91 tune. I drove 20 miles to get union 76 gas and the dang pumps were down. The low fuel light was on so i stopped and got gas at the only other station in town. (don't remember the name) On the way home my check engine light came on so i checked the code and it was the P0401 (EGR flow insufficient). I reset my tune to stock and the light went away. I assume it cleared it when i reset the tune.
My question is: Is it possible that the gas i got was "cheap" in quality and thats what threw the code, or do i have a problem? Will i notice any driveability difference if i have insufficient egr flow?

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Just get a tankful of good gas in there and get your performance tune loaded back up. DTC’s are stored in the PCM even after the CEL goes out but as more data is logged, they are eventually erased, pushed out the back door to make room for new data.
How many miles are on your truck kurt? Before Id change the dpfe , Id take off your throttle body elbow and check to see if the ports are clogged up with carbon. Takes a lil time to do but is alot cheaper to buy a couple cans of throttle body cleaner and use a lil elbow grease. Just an idea, good luck with whatever you decide
Hi Kurt,
In many cases, it is the DPFE sensor and they can fail very soon - the one in my Lightning failed at 13K miles, for example! That is what the PCM uses to regulate EGR flow - however, as Mickey mentioned in his post, it's also a good idea to clean the entire EGR tract throughly, as it will get dirty and can also cause EGR flow problems.
Clean the EGR tract out thoroughly first, and see i that takes care of it - if it comes back, then have your dealer test that DPFE sensor.
Last - if you are still under warranty - take it to the dealer right away and let *them* deal with it under warranty!
Best of luck whatever you decide,
