3 of the first 5 posts on the board have "is it worth it" in the subject line, 2 of the 3 are about the 4.6L and the third doesn't specify.

Yes, if you get the right custom tunes. The XCal2 is just a piece of hardware used to deliver custom tuning so it’s crucial whom you choose to do your tunes. To get straight to the point, Troyer Performance specializes in tuning the F150 platform and Mike is unequivocally who you want tuning your truck, no exceptions.

Take some time to browse around this forum and you will find many posts on the very questions you have posed, which include in-depth responses and personal opinions to how the 4.6 responds to a Troyer custom tune.

HI Blackford,

I you don't mind, please allow me to make some suggestions...............

First, use some of your own time to look at the features & threads that are already here (thousand of them!) and how other people post, etc - and especially take the time to make use of the excellent SEARCH feature that is here for that exact specific purpose. You'll find that works far better than putting up a post and then chiding others because they haven't all come running back to respond to you within 24 hrs., OK? - Just trying to help.

See, the deal is, nobody gets paid to sit here and type - this is a VOLUNTEER board. Many vehicle owners have been so very gracious as to take the time to sit & type up posts to share their thoughts, impressions & results with others, and they are to be commended for their efforts. In other words, try to remember that it is YOUR job to use your own time to make use the SEARCH feature to spend some time retrieving & reading relevant posts for the info you want, of which there are thousands, so they are very easy to find - and to read any of the thousands of existing threads already here.

In general, once someone has posted their results, they don't tend to want to want to come back here and type out all the exact same information over and over every time someone else comes by here to ask the exact same questions - which is virtually every single day at this very busy web site - see what I mean?

So the hot tip is to spend some of your time to read the threads here, and please make sure to use the SEARCH feature, and you will find that you can very quickly find just about any info you could possibly want.

Briefly -

Our Troyer Performance custom tuning will do more for that truck than all your other mods combined to date - unless you have actually used the very best parts available, then in which case our tuning will do about 75% of what all your other mods combined have already done. And no, I cannot tell you any exact HP numbers, as that depends on the computer code of that 4.6 truck since so many of them cannot even go open loop from the factory, etc., and thus they vary a good deal, but it's always well worthwhile. So you'll need to call us with that info & we'll be more than happy to get you *correct* info on what you can expect from our tuning, OK?

What I would suggest is to give us a call at our number listed below & we'll be happy to go over all of this with you in specific detail, talk about just exactly which specific parts & configurations you have installed so you'll have a good idea of what you have actually accomplished, and just what you can expect from our tuning.

The bottom line is, the single best bang for the buck performance enhancement you can make to that vehicle is our Troyer Performance custom tuning, as nothing else for the same or less cost will do more for the performance of that vehicle.

Just FYI - many people just throw on a bunch of parts and then *think* their truck is fast - when in so many cases their truck isn't much faster at all, because they've used lower grade (cheaper) parts so they could change more areas for the same money, and then never do any proper acceleration time testing including recording the temperature, humidity and barometric pressure so they can really do a proper evaluation of those results correctly - we see that happen all the time.

Yes, I do agree with you 100% - doing our underdrive pulley set and our electric fan kit are both excellent ideas, you bet! Between the two of them, your truck will gain about 25 HP at the rear wheels, and the fuel mileage also goes up rather nicely, too - but you still need a proper custom tune to tie everything in together and maximize all your other modifications.

Just give us a call at our number listed below & we'll go over all of that wit you, OK?

Thanks for your post, & Good luck!

Hi Blackford,

Easy there, big guy!

No need to be on the defensive, so to speak - we're all just trying to help you get the most out of this board, and show you how it works around here, that's all. Nobody (especially not me) intended to give you a hard time about any of this, you simply got what were appropriate responses given your own posts.

I hope the info you have been given is helpful, & we hope you'll enjoy your time here at F-150 Online!
