For straight datalogging, the X2 is faster -

It's really a matter of whether you want a tool that is also a top-notch diagnostic tool, or whether all you care about is the datalogging function - for strict datalogging, the X2 has a faster sampling rate, and then for those who want to be able to do thorough diagnostics too, then AutoTap does the trick.

It's all a matter of which is most important to you, diagnostics or datalogging.

By the way - we haven't heard anything back from you since you got your new tunes and the MAF Extender (which I hope you set to the 5.5v setting as I mentioned in my email) - that truck needs to be datalogged immediately with that MAF Extender on there, Peter, as you don't know what A/F's it's running. Don't drag race it until the datalogging is done & we see what A/F's it's running and what adjustments need to be made (if any) to the MAF transfer function.

Thanks for your concern Mike about the new tune. Macey will be helping me do the blower swap in a couple of weeks. I will have it dyno'd within a week after the swap. And I won't forget to set the Mafxtender. I also have another question: If I put a PI TQ converter in will it affect my new tune, shift points?
Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter!

OK, so then the ported blower isn't actually installed yet - *now* I understand better! I just wanted to make sure you were OK on all that. I can't wait for you to get the ported blower on and install the new tunes, etc., as you're going to find significant performance gains. It would have been nice just to have been able to get more tuning done (compared to your earlier tunes), since there was more power to be had in the lower & mid ranges, that alone should have put you solidly in the 12's - wish I had gotten to that sooner, but as things turned out, it was all for the best since you went with the ported blower! Now you'll have even more power with the ported blower & new tuning (and the MAF Extender to keep it safe), so it should run like the proverbial "raped ape."

Thanks for letting me know your status, & good luck!

PS - I hope Macey's recent trip went well - we just did a re-tune for his new engine, and found that his compression ratio was significantly higher than expected with the pistons he got from SHM, as he was getting some pinging. So I had to re-tune it all over again - I haven't heard anything back from him on that yet since I emailed him those new tunes, so I'm assuming all is well - please tell him I said hello!

Mike,
I would have like to have gotten the blower on sooner but Macey was busy. I got some IT-22's from Crystal. I decided to stay with Denso's rather than put in the AR-94's. Do I still need to gap them at .034?

I told him he shouldn't deal with SHM. I talked to him last week and he said it was still pinging at 4K.

Will my new tunes be alright if I install a PI converter? Or do i need a retune.

You'll probably be fine with the PI converter & your present tuning - there is one change we automatically make to a tranny speed sensor to prevent throwing a code from the increased stall speed on launch, but that's already in there.

If you do have us do the PI converter for you (we have each one custom made to order, as I don't like to see those TQ's just sitting around on a shelf for any length of time), we recommend the 3-disc unit and installing it and driving it for a little while before contemplating any calibration changes in the Lightnings - usually we don't need to make any changes in those trucks. Every once in a while we might want to adjust lockup firmness, etc., but that's pretty rare, and if needed can always be done via email.
