question about 1714
question about 1714
got a quick question about the 1714 tuner. i have the 93 octane performance tune installed right now but when i am around the 90-100 range it wont down shift and it limits my top speed to 105 at 4000rpm. it was my understanding that the 1714 takes your speed limitor off.

And I'd leave it on if you don't have the right tires...
Hi HHIFX4,
"dzervit" is correct - you MUST answer that you have the proper speed-rated tires, otherwise the 1714 will not remove the TS limiter.
The 1714 works a bit differently than the 1715 does (though at some point they'll all do the same thing in this regard), a lot of people who used 1715's previously in their older 1996-2003 trucks (or who see people here talking about using the 1715), see a bit different operation with the 1714 in their new 2004 trucks.
The stock factory tires are rated for anywhere from as little as 108 MPH to as high as 118 mph sustained speeds, generally speaking, in the non-Lightning F-150's - and it really doesn't cost that much to get tires that can take those kinds of speeds.
In short - dzervit's post is right on the money, HHIFX4.
Have fun & be careful,
