superchips question
my father in- law is getting a superchips programmer for his 2002 f-250 it has the 5.4 i have a 2002 f-150 screw with 5.4. Can i use the same programmer on my truck after he used it . Or do i have to buy one? any info would be helpful.
Hi wilsonford,
Red Wing's response is exactly correct - no, you can't buy just 1 tuner and then go use it on multiple vehicles at the same time. You have to have the ability to return back to stock tuning, and tuners can hold only 1 vehicle's stock tuning at a time. So you will have to have a separate tuner for each vehicle you want to have performance tuning.
Now what you can do is use it on one 1996-2003 F-150, then return that vehicle back to stock, and then go use that same 1715 tuner on a different 1996-2003 F-150 - and you can do *that* an unlimited number of times.
That feature is there so you can take it to the next vehicle if you trade in say, a 1997 on a 2002 truck, just for example - it's also there so you can let a friend or family member try your tuner temporarily, to see if they like it and want their own.
If you'd like to go over any of this in more detail, please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below.

is there any way to reprogram a max microtuner if you sold the truck you had it on but forgot to return that truck back to stock? Im asking because my friends bought one then sold his truck and is giving me the tuner to use on my truck.
Thanks
Thanks
Qualified yes...
Hi.
I believe so, but I understand it's gonna be expensive.
I get the impression this happens a lot.
If you got the unit for *free*, then spent almost as much as a new one to restore it's functionality, I say you'd be better off investing that money on a new (custom) tuner instead, IMHO ;-))
Cheers

No, you *cannot* do that - the only way to get it unlocked is to send it in to the manufacturer, and it's going to cost you a couple hundred dollars to have them do that for you.
Nobody is doing anyone any "favors" by trying to hand them a used tuner that is already in use on another vehicle, that is never going to work until it is UN-INSTALLED from the original vehicle it was used on. Until that is done, it will remain VIN-locked to prevent defrauding the manufacturer. You are trying to use the same product on multiple vehicles at the same time and that simply is NOT allowed - that is why you will have to pay a hefty fee to have that tuner unlocked so it can be used on another vehicle - because it is ALREADY being used on a vehicle, and each vehicle has to have it's own tuner - period - no exceptions. Otherwise, you cannot return the vehicle back to stock, too.
By the way - you'll want to make use of the SEARCH feature here - the icon to access it is in the upper right position of your screen here, and it is provided so that anyone can instantly look up, retrieve & read anything that has ever been discussed here before. Like this very basic issue, for example - which has been discussed literally countless thousands of times before. Instead of clogging up the boards with endless posts of the exact same thing over and over again, the SEARCH feature is provided here so you can instantly look those kinds of things up easily & quickly get the info you want & need without having to wait, etc. the SEARCH feature has excellent search filters, and that will allow you to get the info you want much quicker - just FYI so you'll know.
The bottom line is, each vehicle to be tuned requires it's own Micro Tuner.
Good luck!
