Question 1715 - upgradeable?

I recently bought a used 1715 Max Micro Tuner; great product and I think the money was well-spent. My question since it doesn't have the 87/91perf/91tow options:

Can the tuners be "updated" for a fee on the internet or will I need to simply buy the newer model year 2004 Max Micro Tuner if I want/need those options?

Mike, can you upgrade/update the tuner for a fee?

Thanks for your help.

Hi cliles55,

I'm assuming you're talking about the original single-program version of the 1715 Micro Tuner - they were produced PRIOR to mid-September of 2003, then at that time the 1715 went tri-tune.

Yes, those earlier units CAN be updated for a fee, however, they will never be able to be used on an F-150 newer than the 2003 model year. The update from single tune to tri-tune for that older 1715 has to be done directly by the manufacturer, and you need to know that fee is very significant - I can't mention it here as discussing any specific pricing is against F-150 Online's rules, but I can tell you that is is "significant" - to the point that I don't recommend going that route.

If you are looking to get the added flexibility of having 3 different tunes, as well as get the best power & performance gains, you'll come out much further ahead by instead, picking up a new custom tuner from us maybe at some point in the future. You know, set aside what would be the upgrade fee for your present 1715, and then add your spare change to that as you can, and then at some point in the future have us do a set of 3 custom tunes in our *custom* tuner. That way you'll get into a more modern unit with email update capabilities as well as a discounted upgrade path, and you'll also get significantly larger power & performance gains, too!

For example, compared to the original single-program 1715, our custom tuning will generally double those power gains in the 1996-2003 non-Lightning F-150's - and compared to the 3-program 1715 units, our custom tuning will deliver about a 50% larger power & performance gain on those vehicles.

Sooo..............what I would suggest is for now, just use that 1715 you have in it's present single program (premium gas towing-compatible) form if you like, and just start setting aside some spare change until you can get into our *custom* tuning, as that will deliver a much better result and get you more modern hardware with email update capabilities, etc. Just FYI.

Best of luck whatever you decide,

Hi Curt,

You're more than welcome, & thank you, too - that's very kind of you to say.
