chips and programming
I have a 99 F150 Supercab 4.6. I've added dual cat back to it at Mineke(the did a great job!) hoping to increase gas mileage and performance. It sounds great but I didn't gain much on gas. I'm getting 12 MPG. I was told to possibly switch chips. I don't know much about this. Where are they located? What different chips can I get and which one for better gas mileage. Where do I get them and can I install myself?

Call Troyer Performance and order an Xcalibrator. It’s a hand held programmer that lets you install the program of your choice.

Hi Jeano,
A dual exhaust system looks & sounds great - however, they also REDUCE torque at lower rpm, and virtually everywhere on part-throttle - and that causes a *reduction* in gas mileage - not an increase. While you gained some horsepower at higher rpms with your exhaust changes, you also most likely *lost* torque at lower rpms and on part-throttle - and that hurts fuel mileage, especially in these heavy trucks. Trucks have much different exhaust system requirements than cars do - what works on a Mustang doesn't work on a truck with the same engine nearly as well, for example. Muffler shops can make great-looking & sounding systems - but they do not have knowledge of flow engineering for truck exhausts, they generally cannot make up a system that increases lower rpm torque (I.E., increasing exhaust gas velocity at lower rpms & on part-throttle in general), which is what would have to happen in order for you to see a gain in MPG from exhaust system changes - just FYI.
On to answer your actual question - yes, we can provide our custom tuning for your truck, and yes, that will get you a nice gain in both horsepower and torque at any throttle position, and at any rpm. Now as a *by-product* of that, yes, many of our customers do see some improvement in fuel mileage - but don't think a tune is going to get you 3-4 more MPG, that usually doesn't happen.
Our tuning is by far the single best bang-for-the-buck performance enhancement you can make to that vehicle, as nothing else for the same or less cost will improve performance as much. Now that doesn't mean our tuning will turn a 2-3 ton truck into a rocketship, of course, that won't happen - it's simply the single best bang for the buck, and will provide better results than any intake kit or exhaust system.
We've specialized in performance tuning these trucks longer than anyone else, and we get the best improvement in performance. Now rather than get into any standard off the shelf tuning, to get the best results you'll want to go with our in-depth custom tuning - even for a bone-stock vehicle, we gain significantly more power & performance with our custom tuning - that is what will get the best results.
There are many things that go into fuel mileage - for example, many people make the mistake of buying the cheapest gas they can find - bad move, all that does is ensure you get the worst possible fuel quality, the dirtiest fuel delivery system & deposits inside the engine, and the worst fuel economy. Fuel quality, maintenance and tuning and among the most important things when it comes to getting the best possible fuel economy - as well as the best power, performance, and driveability.
Please feel free to give us a call at our number listed below, we'll be happy to go over all of this in proper detail with you so you'll have solid information to be able to make your choices by.
Thanks for dropping by, & best of luck with your truck whatever you decide!
