Have you had your speedometer recalibrated for the 35-inch tires? If not you are getting right much better than 15 mpg but your odometer is not reading it correctily. You may gain some mpg with the increased hp and torque of a programmer if your truck is under strain with the larger tires and lift but I think you need gears first myself, then get the progammer set for the gears and tire combo that you have.

Hello Kevin1,

If you are really getting 15 mpg on the highway with a 6" lift and 35" tires, that's actually very good - but keep in mind that right now your speedo & odo are way off because of those much taller tires. You can figure your current MPG if you fill up, then take a trip where you already *know* the exact distance, then fill up again when you get there, and see how many gallons of fuel it took to travel that correct distance.

It's a mistake to think you can lift one of these big heavy trucks, throw a set of 35's on it, and expect to get say, 18 MPG - those 35" tires have decimated your vehicle's torque multiplication, reducing power at the wheels, and reduced fuel mileage as well, obviously.

Now to answer your question - can you get better mpg via tuning? Yes, that can happen with our custom tuning, & many people in your situation come to us for our custom tuning to get exactly that, and many are happy with the results. But keep in mind that we cannot make an absolute iron-clad guarantee that you will get say, 18 mpg for example. What our custom tuning will do is to increase available horsepower & torque at any throttle position or rpm, as well as correct the speedometer & odometer, fix the shift points that are thrown of in the automatics when you change tire size or gear ratio, improve driveability, etc. Then at least you will have more power and a more responsive vehicle, accurate speedo & odo, etc..

Ultimately, long-term we recommend that anyone running 35" tires get the gear ratio changed, too - keep in mind that to make the engine turn the same number of rpms for a given speed & gear that it did before, and have full torque multiplication, that requires a gear ratio change. Now of course that is very expensive for a 4x4 (it's not expensive for a 2WD), so what a lot of people do is come to us for our custom tuning, to help them with more power and all the other benefits while they're saving up for the big expense of a gear ratio change - and they are generally very happy with the results - you just have to be realistic, as tuning alone isn't going to make that truck get say, 20 MPG, of course.

Give us a call at our number listed below if you'd like to go over this in more detail, & good luck with your truck!
