9300 Custom Program

I'll start-off by saying I'm working with Anita at Troyer Performance on my issues. Her customer service has been outstanding. I'm simply posting this to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

I have a new 9300 programmer. I've tried several times to download the program, but it will not take. I go through the process and the LED's never flash from the outer to the middle. It appears I'm getting error code 18. Anita called SCT and they've stated there is some type of communications problem. We knew that. I'm sending the unit back to Troyer so they can do some testing on the unit.

I'm excited about getting the program loaded. Just my luck... I'll keep everyone posted on my performance findings between the 1714 & 9300.

Thanks,
Rich

Anyone else had a similar problem?

No problems here. I’ve had mine since they first came out and have switched back and forth to all three programs without issue. I’m sure you will get things worked out soon.

Hi Rich,

Good grief, it would have to be you that had a problem - Murphy's Law, eh? Sorry to hear that! I didn't know that you are "R.L.," but from your post that must be you, since that is the only person who has had a problem like that.)

Just for what it's worth, to let you know how our other 2004 F-150 owners with 9300's from us are doing, so far none of our other 2004 F-150 customers have had that problem you are having - all our other 2004 owners with 9300's are running fine with no such issues, everyone has been able to plug it in and go right to work.

Anita mentioned to me that you had an aftermarket stereo power amp installed that was coming on automatically when you turn the ignition on, but had forgotten about it (regarding how nothing else can be on while the 9300 is connected). It's possible that may have set a condition in the 9300 that has it locked up, or your 9300 might have had it's software load somehow got corrupted (static electricity, etc.) or simply failed during shipment, for example - very rare, but it is within the realm of possibility. At any rate, it's obvious you are having a problem, and I hate that anyone had a problem, especially you! .

Don't worry Rich, we'll get to the bottom of this for you so you can enjoy your new custom tuning - you've been with us for a long time, and I can't wait to see how happy you are with our tuning once you get it installed. I'll be following up on this thru Anita for you, and get this taken care of just as quickly as possible!

Murphy's Law....

Sometimes if someone doesn't have BAD luck... they's have NO luck at all. I have 100% confidence that you & Anita will do everything possible to get the unit working. I'm sure it will be back to me soon.

Yes, I had just had a small amp and 8" sub woofer installed. It's only been in for a couple days. After calling Anita and her asking me if everything was off, I thought about the amp. With the ignition turned on (without starting the vehicle) I looked under the seat and noticed the red power light of the amp on.
I disconnected it. I'll have to check why that comes on like that. I would think it should only come on when the stereo is turned on. We went through the steps again and nothing changed.

I do have a remote controlled tunneal cover. I would assume the only time it draws anuthing from the battery is if it's either opening or closing. (is this correct) I did completely disconnect it... just incase and still no change. When I do get the unit back... should I disconnect the tunneal cover?

Just so you know.... the closest gas station to me is a 76 Station. I know you mentioned that is the best option for California. I have a 76 on one side of the road and a Shell on the other. I usually only buy Arco, but I will go with the 76 from this day forward.

I guess if anything good comes out of this... I now have a chance to run ALL the gas out of the tank. The truck will have a NICE new fresh tank of 76 Station 91 Octane fuel in it.

Thanks for the reply and I look forward to your reply as well as getting the unit back.

I'm sending it to you today. 01-29-05 I'll be sending it back UPS and I will email Anita a tracking number.

Thank you,
Rich

Until this subject came up, I never even gave any thought to the fact that I have an Alpine base amp under my passenger front seat that comes on with the ignition; I just checked and bingo the power light comes on with the key. I have no idea at all how much current it draws just sitting there not being used with the stereo shut off but I haven’t had any problems loading my 9300 tunes on though.

GAS Brand

richgonfishn

Stay as far away as you can from ARCO gas. I stopped using it over 2 years ago. So far here in California Mike is correct that 76 is about the best. In a pinch Chevron and Shell will do. Too bad we don't have 93 out here. But Mike does a great job with the 91 we get.

Thanks...

Thanks for the info on the gas. I've pretty much used Arco for all my trucks and have never had a problem. I know Mike knows what he's talking about so I will start using 76 from now on.

Thanks again.....

I hope the 9300 gets here soon. Mike should receive it Wednesday 02-02-05

Hi Fellas,

Actually, it's perfectly normal for stereo shops to install amps so that they come on automatically when the ignition is turned on - it's called using a "switched ignition source" lead, so that the amp cannot use battery power unless the ignition is on - meaning hopefully that the engine is running so that the battery is being charged by the alternator.

As we can see from John's post (jpdadeo), he has one installed too, and didn't have any problem - that *might* mean that with amps that aren't humongous, as long as it's not actually processing a signal, it's not taking any significant amount of power - I really can't say. But even so, we have amended our supplemental documentation to include things like checking for stereo amps, GPS devices, cell phones, etc., that may come on automatically with the ignition, to make sure everyone checks to make sure they are turned off or disconnected prior to flashing.

And it could well be that the stereo amp had nothing to do with it, but instead was just a problem with that particular 9300 - we can't possibly know until that specific unit is examined, of course - but we'll get this taken care of for you, Rich - ASAP.

Ham Radio makes a good point about fuel quality - Union 76 is the #1 fuel in California, & many parts out west. Shell and then Chevron are fuels to try (in that order) is Union 76 isn't available out there in California 7 many parts west - most areas where premium fuels are 91 octane instead of the 93 octane premiums available from roughly Texas on east.
