is there 2 versions of this product? I see ads that say NEW! and about tuning for 87 octane. and if this is the case how do you tell the diffrence?

 

Check the manufacturing date on the sticker on the back of the unit - if it was made after September 15 2003, then it's the newer 3-program unit (87 tow-safe, premium gas tow-safe, and premium gas maximum performance no towing). If it's made before that date, then it's the original single-program style unit that has a premium gas towing-compatible program.

Those older units can in many cases be updated to the newer style 3-program units by contacting the manufacturer directly and paying a significant fee - however, what we recommend instead is to just sell the unit outright, and take that money along with what it would cost to update that unit and get our *custom* tuning instead, as that will yield much better raw power & performance gains.
