MPG.... Big Difference!!

I wanted to pass on some info. I have a 2004 F-150 4x4 Lariat. I've done a few things to it.... 35" Toyo M/T Tires, Dual Magnaflow Exhaust, Cold Air Intake... etc etc. I purchased the 1714 Programmer from Troyer. I was very happy with it, but decided to sell it to get my hands on the 9300 customer programmer. Here is what I wanted everyone to know. I took the truck back to the stock program. I'm currently waiting for 9300. My truck shows me what my MPG (miles per gallon) is. With the 1714 I was getting 13.5.... remember, I'm running 35" tires. I've driven the truck with the stock tune for 4-5 days now and the MPG is down to 10.7. To me... that shows a HUGE difference. Either way I'm sucking too much gas, but 14 is much better than 11. I can't wait to see what the 9300 produces.

Here is a photo of a recent try to the hard hit Reno. (lots of snow)

Very nice! I have the same truck but find the 18" wheels are out of proportion...too small.

Whose wheels are those, and what are the specs? Did you do anything regarding a lift kit?

Weld Wheels..

These are Weld Evo Andro 445 wheels. They are 18x8.5

I just lifted the truck... 4" Rancho full suspension.

Here is a BAD photo taken at dusk. I'll post a better photo first chance I get.

I've been told rather authoritatively by Mike Troyer that I am not seeing MPG gains with my Predator tuner using the regular gas setting. But I'm still seeing about 1.5 MPG gains using the tuner. I didn't buy the tuner or the truck for fuel economy, it was just a little bonus is all. Love the tuner and wouldn't be without one on these new computer controlled trucks. I think that the Superchips and Predator brands are the two most popular, so they are most likely the best values. I paid $350 for my Diablo including overnight shipping.

If you've gone back to your stock tune. It is calibrated for stock tires. I assume the 1714 was calibrated for the 35" tires. You're going further than indicated. So your MPG is off.

Good Point...

Newt, that is a very good point. I didn't even think of that. I am curious to see the difference between the 1714 & the 9300. I just hope the 9300 arrives sooooooon!!

Thanks,
Rich

Rich,
I'm thinking of doing the same thing, switching out the 1715 for the newer custom tuner. just curious how much difference between the two, I've heard lots of good things. Let us know when it's installed, if you don't mind.

Thanks

jdmclemore,

Are you starting off with the 9300 or did you have the 1714? Let us know how you like the 9300. I don't think mine will be here till mid next week.

I will post my findings on the difference between the 1714 & 9300.

Thanks for the compliments!! I love the truck!!

This is my first tuner - I'm all stock right now (except for the Airaid intake). Tuner goes on tomorrow and hopefully my Magnaflow Catback exhaust will be released in the next couple weeks!

Just did a little reading up on the 9300 tuner. It's next on my list of mods for my '05 F150

Can't wait to hear the results with yours JD.
