Xcalibrator and MPG

I'm really enthused about the Xcalibrator. Gonna have to pick one up eventually. What kind of MPG gains are typical when using the tunes it comes with? This of course is assuming you drive normally little to no hot rodding around town.

Not yet

Haven't done MPG yet after first installing my Xcalibrator tune. But when I ran the 91 Octane Tow/Perf custom tune by Mike Troyer for 6 months I was getting 16-17 mpg on the road and 12-13 towing.

I believe my best MPG will be with the 91 Max Performance tune I have in now. I need a few more miles on the odometer before the PCM learning curve is done and then I will check to see what we are doing.

BTW, the Xcalibrator does not come with preset tunes. You have to have a dealer create the tuning you want and that is what Mike Troyer does at Troyer Performance. I suggest a call to him and discuss what you want out of your truck.
The Xcalabrator is just the tool to get the tuning loaded into your PCM.

E-fans should give you better mileage. TroyerPerformance website says up to 2.5mpg increase.

Basically, I'm looking into some power mods that also increase my MPG. I figure a:

Chip/tune
catback exhaust/intake
UDP
E-fans

should be the ticket. Anybody else got some input?

Question Before tuning...

I got about the same before the original PCM flash by Troyer. So can't complain can I.

I am now awaiting the e-fan mod by Troyer for the 2004/05 F-150. Anita says the kit should be ready by end of January.

I've had my fan off when I replaced my pullys. That original fan and clutch is HEAVY! A lot of iron to spin around. It was a crime to have to put it back on. So that is the next thing I look to do. That should add a few more ponys to my stable. Yah!

It's going to be a while before I get a read on mpg. I’m still in the lead foot mode.
Before the Xcalibrator I got 16mpg or so local driving so I’m expecting about the same I guess.

Happy New Year everyone!

Only a couple sets of golf clubs. When I do tow, I wouldn't use the 91 octane performance program. I'd back it down. My dad has a diesel, He programed it for an extra 100 hp and ended up replacing his turbo after towing a 5th wheel for couple thousand miles

I got my stock tune which is 87-octane then I have an 87-octane performance, a 93-octane tow-preferred, and a 93-octane max-performance. The way I figure, I got all my bases covered for towing no matter what octane I have in the tank. If it’s 87-octane in the tank I can put the stock tune on to tow and if I have 93-octane in the tank, I got the tow-preferred tune.

Takes about 5 to 10 minutes tops to switch between programs.
