1714 question.....Please help
I like everything about it, but the shifting is too firm for me. Where should I start on the pressure setting? I like the shift points, bu want a mix of firm but smooth transition to next gear.
I am very new at this, so any ideas, as trivial as they may seem, is much appreciated!

Yes, that's an excellent idea - use the middle of the 3 programs, the premium gas towing tune does have softer shifts in the 1714 Micro Tuner for the 2004 models.
Or, in the hi-performance tune, just go back in an edit the shift pressures - take them down in increments of about 5 until you get them where you want them.
Personally, I can't imagine the shifts being too firm taking the "Superchips" settings in the 1714 - we've done that in many of these 2004's, and they're pretty consistent in the result - a lot of the trucks we've done are driven by women, and we get no such complaints. The shifts are nice and smooth at light throttle, and it only shifts noticeably firmer at heavier throttle openings - just like it should. That also helps the transmission's clutches, bands, etc. last longer due to the reduced friction.
One thing to remember is that it's typical for the transmission to shift firmer than normal for the first few hundred miles after flashing the PCM with a new tune - that's just because all the previous adaptive strategy adjustments (which affect engine tuning as well as automatic transmission shift characteristics) are cleared out any time you flash the PCM with a different tune - same thing happens when you disconnect the battery for a couple of minutes, you go back thru the basic relearn cycle & adaptive begins from scratch again. I'd wait until you have at least 500-1000 miles on it after installing the 1714's hi-performance tune before making any such adjustments, as it will take that long before you know how it's actually going to shift once it settles in - just a suggestion.
The bottom line is this is an easy adjustment to make, and how to do that is covered in the 1714's instruction manual.
Good luck!
